Hi folks,

This evening I was subject to a telephone survey from a research organization contracted by Cable and Wireless Communications.

They asked me 15 minutes worth of questions regarding phone call charge capping.

As you may know C&W Communications have been offering a 50p charge cap on national rate Saturday calls since October of last year and this offer has been periodically extended until the end of May.

Personally, I've made loads of use of this offer. In theory one 50p call on a Saturday can last up to 23hrs 59minutes but my calls have been about 8 or nine hours in duration for this cost. I still think this is good value for money!! In an ideal world we should have even cheaper local calls like they have in the U.S.A. or Australia.

The very good news is that C&W are considering offering charge capping 7 days a week and over all types of call from local weekday to weekend international calls.... Of course the capped charges will vary for the different types of call but it can only be good news for anyone who uses the Internet.

Even if Cable and Wireless capped a national rate call to £1 it would still give me 24hour access (740odd hours) to the Internet for £38 or so a month including line rental. At the moment a £68 monthly bill gives me a maximum of 132 hours worth of access. If C&W introduce this charge capping scheme it would be more than worth getting a 2nd phone line to hang the computer on to leave it online 24/7.

If you have a B.T. line that can do a 1471 enquiry then you can still use C&W services. When you join you use a 131 or 132 access number to route your call onto the C&W network. All you pay B.T. for is the line rental.

I guess we shall all have to watch the press for details :o)
