WHAT'S WITH THE CHURCH? Did any one else hear the news? Rather shocking that our government put 3 million pounds into the church last week. Can't figure out why, I mean it's the 1990s, religion is on the way out here. Before any one slates me and says "How dare you say that, where's the proof?", well the European OFFICIAL survey printed the OFFICIAL figures for the number of people who regularly attend church (as in, every week), have a wild guess. There are approx. 57.8 million people in the UK, how many would you say go to church? A friend of mine reckoned 40 million...yeah right, no, figures are in fact.... brace yourself, ONE million! One of 58 people go to church every week in the UK. So it proves it's a very minority activity. So why spend 3 million on some crappy organisation that no one supports anymore? Surely it would be better spent on the NHS, and schools, etc. Worthy causes that NEED an influx of cash, things the government claim they are stiring to pay for. University students have to pay tuition fees now, ok, fair enough, but that was because the governemtn claimed "we're struggling", so why waste money on this? I can't get to grips with WHY the heck (noticed I didn't use "hell" there :) the church can't just admit "yeah, we were popular, but we've had our day, it's over now" and just give in. They're nice buildings, but if the toss up was between a new hospital or a church, who you gonna pick? How many people do you know that go to church? I know... one. And how did the church ever get authority any way? What a stupid organisation, a high religious man was on TV last week saying that people who didn't go to church were "narrow minded"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Silly old GIT! That's the narrow minded comment, why can't he just accept that few people believe that crappy old fairy tale any more, and stop trying to convince people into thinking something that isn't even plausable, I mean is this whole religion thing any more believable than The Wizard of Oz? Nope, not to me any way. Why are you "bad" because you don't go to church, according to these people? I don't go around mugging people; I don't kill people; I don't steal; I don't sleep around; I don't treat people like shit; I'm not a bad person, I don't go to church, so why should I? It doesn't mean I'm bad just because I don't go to boring old church and play their silly make-believe pretend games, I've got better things to do, to improve the quality of my life, and ENJOY it, which is what life's about after-all. That's the main reason I feel the church is a failed organisation in the 1990s. Alright 100 years ago what did people have to do? Every one in town went to mass, but now life is fast moving, we live in a technology world. People went to church because they had nothing better to do. Come on, why go to church when you could be at home on your Amiga, or out with your friends at a club; or watching a movie at the cinema? I know I've gone on about this in the past, but the comments this week have just outraged me, these religious leaders piss me off so much with their crap. I don't have a problem with some one believing in god and the bible etc. If they're stupid enough to fall for it (ooh controversial! :) doesn't make them bad people though, just misguided and a bit less logically-minded) , if they believe it, FINE but stop trying to convince the rest of us to think the same way. I know some one who is in with my group of friends, and he's trying to convert people to the Morman (excuse me if that's spelt incorrectly) religion, he's told one boy that he can stay at his house on thursday night and come to church with him, and he's given him books to read, and this boy is only going along with it to avoid upsetting the religious guy. He's told me that he doesn't believe it any more than I do. I used to be like that, but I'm past it, it's got to me, I'm not going to take that any more. He tried to "convert" me to his religion, and I got quite pissed off about this. The same way I do with those annoying gits who knock on your door. I don't try and convert them to my way of thinking, so why can't they accept what I believe? (Which is much more logical and plausable that their ideas, face it). I had quite a heated debate with this religious person I know. The debate which I won, because he couldn't answer any of my questions, or say anything in the slightest to convince me of his way of thinking. I asked him "So if there are 81 religions in the world, they can't all be right can they? And they all say different things". He just said his was the right one, but a jew will feel the same about their religion, so what makes his religion any more right (or wrong) than the Jewish religion? I asked him, "why is god a HE? If there's only one god, why have the parts that would make him a HE in the first place, why would god need reproductive organs if there's only one god?", so surely god would be an IT.... he ummed and erred, and then said "He's the holy father".... right... that explains it all... ahem. He said, is he didn't drink alcohol, or have sex before marrage in his life, or smoke, then he'd enjoy a better quality of life when he dies. It's this STUPID idea that you use with children, you're good and we'll give you a lolly, if you're bad you'll get a smack. He has no substantial proof of what he says. It's a petty excuse to get away with living a minimal life and making yourself feel better by saying "what I don't do in this life I can do in the next", NO, this isn't a rehearsal, this is the ONE and ONLY life you'll be sure of getting, so do everything you can, and don't serve some imaginary god, you do what you want to do, *I* am my only leader. His religion is also against gay people... hmmnn... so if god made everyone then he made gay people, right? So why is he so cruel and callous to make something and then condemn it? If this is true, then God, you're a complete twat! I asked him what would happen to me when I die then, because I'm not a believer? He told me I'd go to hell, but I thought God's motto was "forgiveness" and he said "well maybe you'd go to heaven".... so why follow his rules in life if he's gonna let me in any way? I don't believe in hell, so where do I go? "Erm, maybe eternal limbo if you believe that", well, no I don't, so where do I go? I could go on, but I think I've said enough, and made my point well, and to say I'm pig sick of these MINORITY (yes you are!) groups trying to convince straight logical thinking people to their backward, archaic, medieval, sexist, homophobic, and often racist cults.. cults... change one letter in there and you'll have what 99% of them are. +RIPMAG+
