GOING FOR GALAXY! Since the take-over of Kiss 102 and Kiss 105 in September by Chrysalis radio, and the rename to Galaxy 105, slowly but surely changes have been creeping in during the day. Galaxy is already the brand name for Chysalis' head radio station "Galaxy 101" in Bristol, which is a traditional top 40 radio station "playing the hottest hits". Where as Kiss 102 and 105 were based on London's top dance radio station Kiss 100 FM. Since 102 and 105 made the split from Kiss, and joined the Galaxy brand, the day time play lists of the radio stations have tended to slip away from the original intention of the radio station, "to provide a dance station for Yorkshire and Manchester". Now that the majority of output from the stations is commercial top 40 "dance" music, the likes of which are heard on Top of the Pops, and the usual radio stations like TFM, Metro FM and even Altlantic 252 (although Galaxy's range of music isn't as limited as Atlantic's output of about 10 songs!). A LOT of people have been voicing their opinion about the change of music lists for day time programming, when the unexpected take over happened, and so far I haven't spoke to one person who is pleased about the changes. The Kiss List used to be a big feature on Kiss 102/105, now "The List" is much shorter and not really spoken about. Shows such as Kiss-Klassix and Kontinuous Kiss, haven't been replaced with Galaxy Gold (or what ever name you could give a show that plays oldies) but rather with usual shows, and 30 minute continuous hit sweeps, which radio stations seem to be under the impression we people like! WE DON'T! A radio station shouldn't be a jukebox with ad breaks, presenters with personality (like the great Alex Pepper) shouldn't be limited to what they can say and when. Although evenings on Galaxy are still as wonderful as ever, with the awesome "Ministry of Sound Live" show, and Sunday evening's "Speed Garage Anthems", and the Techno show with John Berry. Although Galaxy has obviously lost the Judge Jules Networked club chart from Kiss 100 since the fall of the Kiss network. This has been replaced with a good second best however, the Mixmag Buzzchart with Tim Lennox. But as far as the nightshift and breakfast-8PM go, Galaxy! We don't want another fucking top 40 station! We need a proper dance station once again! Give us it back PLEASE! +RIPMAG+
