RIPMAG CLUB CHART Yes, time for this issues club chart compiled for RIPMAG by meee Dan Wood. Unprofessional though, because I can't remember what the hell I put in here last issue, but any way, I'm sure some of these are from last months chart as well, and bear in mind I'm typing this at the end of August or start of Sept, so a lot of these should be in the shops now (maybe even getting on a bit now :( I'll do it a bit sooner next ish! so here's this issues top 10!! 10. Finally - Ce Ce Peniston (CE CE RUDEDOG, & TIDY FRIDAY Mix) Remember this one? Originally released back in 1991, and had moderate success back then, but Ce Ce was never heard of again after that, but now A&M Records have decided to get some top DJs to remix this old tune and bring it up to date. It's in the shops now, two different CDs available, but neither of them have the AWESOME Ce Ce Rudedog & Tidy Friday mix on them, which isn't for sale any where, which is sad because it's the best mix. Samples in the Ce Ce Rudedog & T/Friday mix taken from "Hold Your Head Up High" by Boris Dlugosch (spelt it right this issue!) and RIP-Groove by RIP Productions and Ice Cream Records. 9. Burnin' - Daft Punk The third single to be taken from the MASSIVE selling "Homework" album. Burnin' has been around for a while since it was on the album (which was DJ Magazine's album of the year for 1996) and will be a familiar sound to Daft Punk fans, quite an interesting song, along the same standards of Daft Punk's previous tunes. No vocals (as ever), and a small selection of samples put together nicely to make a song you can't help get into! (wow that sounded good :) 8. RIP Groove - Double 99 (Tuff Jam) The Double 99 track is being released again on single. The original Tuff Jam mix was on "Tuff Jams Vol I" album, mixed by Karl Brown and Matt Lamont, but they've decided to release it as a single, other mixes by other DJs are included on the single as well. Including the original Double 99 edit (which is the best one by the way). 7. Hold Your Head Up High - Boris Dlugosch (BOOM) Should be released by the time you read this, on Postitiva. The promo CD is usually the same as the release disc, the promo CD has 6 mixes on, the radio edit, high club mix, Julian Jonah's Bas Boy Mix (the best one), More/Nunez Club Mix, Derrick Carter Mile High Club, Junior Vasquez Arena Mix. A good dancey-discoey song (there is disco clearly in this song). Moose wrote the song so as usual with Moose's tunes, a brillian ass kicking song. 6. Funk Phenomena The Mixes (Ultra Funkula) - Armand Van Helden I don't have this one on CD yet, since they haven't been pressed, but this will be in shops soon I hope. Last year's BIIIG club hit "The Funk Phenomena" remixed for 1997, and a slight change on the song "The Ultra Funkula" is also included on the vinyl (and will be on the CD) as a supplement track, but this mix (it is based on Funk Phenomena, and through all it's changes IS actually supposed to be a new mix of Funk Phenomena) is the one that's probably been the most recognised. Due sometime in October on FFRR. 5. Happy Days - PJ This one hasn't made it to CD yet, but my vinyl promo copy has 4 mixes of this song, including one by Meek! Which is strange considering the type of tune it is. Madonna has checked this song out, and she's very impressed with it, hopefully by the time you read this it will be available to buy, it's been floating around on promo for long enough! 4. Turn To Sugar (Turn Me Out) - Cathy Brown VS Armand Van Helden I've had this since the end of February, so it HAS to be released before the year is out. Based on Armand Van Helden's mix of "Sugar is Sweeter", so that little 'beep' sample that seems to be in EVERYTHING right now is in there. 3. The Moment of My Life - Bobby D'Ambrosio (Featuring Michelle Weeks) Released in August, still a great song. Is out on CD to buy now, and I believe the sale CD is the same as the promo CD, the promo CD has 5 tracks on it, track one is the "Eat Me" radio edit, track two is the Classic Club Mix which as usual with "Club Mixes" is just an extended mix of track one. Track three is the M&S Epic Klub Mix, track five is the best mix "Richie Jones Club Mix" and track five is RIP Productions (courtesy of Ice Cream records) mix "R.I.P's Moment In Dub". A cool song, on the Ministry of Sound label. 2. Boogie Wonderland - Cycle New comers to the dance scene "Cycle" debut single, a remix of the 1979 MEGA tune "Boogie Wonderland" by Earth, Wind and Fire. The original was such a cool song, it takes some beating, but this manages to bring it bang up to date, with a thumping bass and dancey rythms. Hopefully released by December is all goes according to plan. Sooo, in true chart style, let's have a look at the ten gone by! 10 - Finally - Ce Ce Peniston (The Ce Ce Rudedog and Tidy Friday mix) 9. - Burnin' - Daft Punk 8. - RIP Groove - Tuff Jam/Double 99 7. - Hold Your Head Up High - Boris Dlugosch 6. - Funk Phenomena The Mixes (The Ultra Funkula) - Armand Van Helden 5. - Happy Days - P.J 4. - Turn To Sugar (Turn Me Out) - Cathy Brown VS Armand Van Helden 3. - Moment of My Life - Bobby D'Ambrosio (Featuring Michelle Weeks) 2. - Boogie Wonderland - Cycle And this issues number one tuney tune tune... drum roll please..... made a big appearence already in this issues chart, am I biased? I think not! Mr Armand Van Helden AGAIN! 1. The Witch Doktor - Armand Van Helden Currently only around on promo vinyls but is getting a commercial release soon, like a lot of Armand's mixes, a song based around only one vocal "The Witch Doktor!" with lot's of wierd electronic sounds and beats in the back ground forming a very 90s-electricy-dancey rythm. Top tune! And that's it from this ish's club chart, there'll be another one next issue! Dan Wood (if you want to contact me about this, please email me: RIPMAG_Ami@Hotmail.com) See ya! +RIPMAG+
