Some personal news. Clickboom interview.
|
I ordered a 233mhz PPC card with a 060 onboard. But there's a problem..
There are 12 weeks delivery time. Doh! So I'll just have to wait for
a while before I can really use quake.
This might be slightly delayed news.
Amiga Nutta has been able to do an interview with Clickboom.

Quake speed on a 233mhz Pentium II.
|
When I was at work last week I tried something kinda funny.
I started Quake on the 233mhz Pentium II running NT4.0 I use there.
Then I typed Timerefresh in the console. Now this is *not* the same
as timedemo. This only turns the player around 360 degrees and calculates
the fps. The fps you get is very dependant on where you stand. Anyhow,
in 320*200 I got about 84 fps. Maybe this is a hint to how fast Quake PPC
will be. I know though that the 604e is not quite as fast as the Pentium II, but
at least it gives you a hint of things to come.

Improving Quake speed.
|
There are a few commands you can type in the console
to improve the speed of quake, it looks like crap though.
"r_drawflat 1" - Turns off the texturemapping
"r_fullbright 1" - Turns off the lightsourcing
"d_mipscale 40" - Turns off/lowers the mipmapping
"d_mipcap 3" - Lowers the detail
With these settings I managed to get Quake to run at 3 fps.
Almost fast. :-)

Non-Playable Quakedemo.
|
Clickboom has released a non-playable demo of Quake.
Go directly to Clickboom's site.
I've run it, and with my A4000/030/25/18MB and CV64-3D, it gave me this figure:
Running timedemo demo2 - CV64/3D 640x480 -8Bit.
Smallest Windows size and Odd pixelmode.
No sound
I get 1.81 fps (frames per second). For it to be playable,
it should be atleast 10-15 fps. In a few weeks I will put
up the figures for 060, since I'm buying one.

Quake sent to ID. The official slogan.
|
Quake has been sent to ID software for final approvement.
Now it's just a matter of time. Let's just hope that it'll be
released soon.
All votes for the Quake slogan are in. And the winning slogan is:
The Amiga survived.. You won't.

The CyberGL/ViRGE Question.
Added a clanlist, updated the info section.
|
For those of you wondering if Quake will support the 3D chip in your CV64/3D
cards.
The answer is, it won't, it's impossible with the original ViRGE chip.
If you want more info please take a look at: S3 Planet
Apparently, the ViRGE chip used in the CV64/3D is the slowest one, and
it's
too slow to run Quake with CyberGL.
Updated the info with clans. Added a clanlist.
It's not much, but it'll hopefully grow with time and Amiga Quake.
