It was totally tounge-in-cheek. The reporter spent more time talking about the slide projector problems than the photos. His only comment on the photos basically said that they were like those 3D posters...you either see it or you don't, and the reporter didn't. Then he went into Hoagland's talk about conspiracy, made a little fun of that. Awful.Pat B.

Organization: Cornell University LibraryNPR's "All Things Considered" aired a brief "satirical" piece on the Hoagland news conference on yesterday's program. The correspondent basically voiced his own irritation and boredom at being forced to spend over two hours looking at blurry, inconclusive photos shown through a constanting jamming slide projector (yup, they can build temples on the moon but...). He took Hoagland to task for vaguely implying that the jamming was not accidental. It was a pretty useless, boring piece overall; basically a time killer. Since the reporter seemed to be so in need of excitement, and so desperate to let his bosses know how annoyed he was at having to cover Hoagland, one can assume he'll now be assigned to covering Bob Dole's campaign, where the thrills never cease.

Hi martha,i suppose that by now you've heard that richard Hoagland was doing a press conference thingy......(who hasn't!)
I was driving home tonight when the country radio station that i listen to came on and said something along the lines of "there are aliens on the moon". I was really weird, i felt relieved that someone had come out and said it publically. i also thought "now it has started". i feel like something has changed, like something has gone into hyperdrive or something. i can't explain it. i just feel like i should know WHAT has started and should be doing something about it. it is the strangest feeling and it's getting stronger and stronger over the last 5 or 6 hours. kindof like you know that company is arriving and you really have to clean and do the dishes and get the house tidy, except its more like we are going to have visitors and there is nothing to do to prepare, just to be ready when they get here.........ug. the suspense is killing me! i don't know if any of this is making sense or not. i just can't get this "now it has started" out of my head.
maybe i've finally gone certifiable! :)
cheers,
kathy .. :-> smile, it makes 'em wonder what you're up to.

To: mblwLinda,
Got your messages about the UFO's. There was a short story on our local ABC affiliate (maybe one minute) about it. They showed a couple of pictures and that was it. They did a telipole questioning whether people believed in UFO's or not and the one tally I saw, 64% of the callers said they believed there were. I did not see the final tally. That was all the coverage there was up here that I know of.

In Austin, Texas, ABC aired a segment on the Mars Mission 10:00pm news. They showed the pictures, and quite frankly, they were fairly open about it. They did mention that they asked Mr. Hoagland for some photos, but could not get them. Unfortunately, at the end of the report, they had some no-body from a prestigous scientific org. say that the entire thing was totally ridiculous. And then they ended it by saying - true or not true ? We'll let you decide. (paraphrased). So, at least some coverage was given to this most incredible story.

Subject: KOMO-TV News Story on Hoagland Press Conference (fwd)(KOMO-TV is an ABC affiliate in Seattle. --SW)
KOMO-TV (ABC AFFILIATE) SEATTLE LOCAL TALKING HEAD: Have you heard about this? Neil Armstrong might have been the first American to walk on the moon, but was he in fact walking among the ruins of some long-last (sic) civilization? A group of space enthusiasts, led by a controversial science writer has been poring over NASA's archives of old moon photos. KOMO's Washington, DC correspondant Tom Walker reports the group claims to see evidence of ancient structures and that group claims there was a US government effort to keep it quiet.
HOAGLAND PRESS CONFERENCE
5:45 PM THURSDAY 21 NOVEMBER, 1996
ASTRONAUT: Roger, the EVA...WALKER: The moon we all thought the Appollo astronauts landed on was dead, barren, nothing but a lot of desolate moon rock, right? Well, maybe that's what you thought. That's not what Richard Hoagland thinks. (Hoagland with slide in background)
HOAGLAND: There we're looking at some pretty amazing stuff...
WALKER: What he sees when he looks at a picture like this is not just some glob of moon dust, but a spire, a mile and a half high that was built by someone. Or this, what looks like nothing more than a smudge on film, when, enlarged many times...
HOAGLAND: ...because what I'm seeing is something that resembles a sharp-edged Grecian temple, complete with columns, and pointed top.
WALKER: What Hoagland sees are the remains of an air-tight glass dome that he believes may have once covered part of the moon millions of years ago, held together by massive cables.
HOAGLAND: There is this beautiful, looping, parallel arch of three strands, looking like three stranded pearls and right down here at the bottom there is sitting a humongous cable car... (Music from original Star Trek)
WALKER: If you're hearing this, right about now, wait a minute! There was a Boeing engineer on hand who said he believes in the dome theory, too.
UN-NAMED ENGINEER: A staging place or what have you, I don't know.
UN-NAMED REPORTER: A staging place for what?
UNNAMED ENGINEER: Well, perhaps a (sic) extraterrestrial civilization or even our own civilization at an prior epoch.
WALKER: Alex Cook, a student at Everett Community College in Washington, supplied some of the photos, which he enlarged from NASA pictures. He thinks he may see something.
COOK: Spires, or fingers of some kind of semi-transparent material. WALKER: But he's not necessarily a believer.
COOK: I just think its very intriguing.
WALKER: Intriguing, maybe, but, says the government, nothing but ,malarkey. NASA says its scientists have looked at the same pictures and they don't see any of the things Hoagland sees. Replies Hoagland: NASA knows more than its letting on and its time and its time to come clean. In Washington, DC, Tom Walker, KOMO News 4.
LOCAL TALKING HEAD: Hoagland's group alleges the government has long feared society would collapse if it learned of evidence of other beings on the moon. NASA denies it has suppressed any evidence like that.

Ri> CSPAN hinted that they may tape Ri> it, meaning that they will analyze it to decide if it has enough "News Ri> content" to be worth delay-broadcasting at another time.Thursday night on Art Bell, Hoagland said C-SPAN did show up, but at 10:30, at the end of the conference. CNN was there too, but decided later not to broadcast anything. However, on Bell on Thursday, Hoagland announced that CNN had contacted him and wanted to do a detailed report. I suppose if they air it, it won't be on Headline News, but rather that more, in-depth CNN channel. As far as when it will be on, I would suggest listening to Art Bell to find out. I am going crazy here recording his all-night program, then trying to listen to it the next day.

As news conferences go, this one was irresistible: Scientists to reveal "ancient artificial structures on moon." "Suppressed evidence" includes photos of Apollo astronauts walking amid apparent lunar ruins." Be there at 9 a.m., National Press Club, for the story of the century.Reporters from at least 60 worldwide media organizations came to see proof of aliens. They scrutinized grainy blowups of old NASA photos and slides of impossibly fuzzy objects-including a blob that the assembled research team called "the castle." To be more precise: "an extra- ordinary, highly geometric, glittering glass object hanging more than nine miles above the surface of the moon," in the words of Richard Hoagland, the New Jersey author and noted pseudo-scientist who called the conference.
Hoagland, 50, is, basically, a kook. He's famous for popularizing the sighting of an alleged "human face" in the terrain of Mars, and he more recently claimed that the Bosnian peace talks were held in Dayton, Ohio, so world leaders could view the alien bodies housed in a hangar there.
But yesterday, the collective media didn't snort with laughter and walk out. Instead, journalists politely asked how these astounding lunar discoveries could have been covered up, and how long ago the ancient structures were built, and why the aliens chose the moon to build on. Later, reporters from CNN and the Associated Press, among others, called Apollo 12 astronaut Alan Bean to ask whether he'd ever stood on the moon near a massive tier of glass like ruins," as alleged in one Hoagland handout.
Meanwhile, people who'd read about the news conference on the Internet phoned newsrooms around the county, including The Washington Post, wondering how much about the alien civilization had been revealed in the "suppressed" NASA photos. Derek Jett, an ad agency director in Memphis, called to make sure The Post was covering the story, saying, "You wonder whether the guy's a hoax, but in the back of your mind you know the government covers up some things."
Perhaps this attitude isn't surprising, given the popularity of shows such as "The X-Files" and "Alien Autopsy," which flood the culture with fantastic notions of evil government bureaucrats harboring incredible secrets. People can't help hoping that aliens built castles on the moon, because the truth is too boring. We went to the moon. Found a bunch of rocks. End of story.
"I wish we had seen something like what he's describing," Bean said yesterday from Houston. "It would have been the most wonderful discovery in the history of humankind-and I can't imagine anyone, in my wildest dreams, not wanting to share that."
Hoagland, a science writer who served as a CBS News consultant during the Apollo missions, labeled his latest effort the Enterprise Mission, borrowing some credibility from "Star Trek." ("To boldly go where maybe someone has gone before," he said.) His researchers include, for the most part, fans of his book "The Monuments of Mars" - which NASA researchers and others, including Carl Sagan, have shown to be specious. ("There is a capacity for self-delusion," Sagan began explaining yesterday in his trademark cadence.)
One of Hoagland's investigators is Ken Johnston, an engineer who did contract work for NASA and examined photographs at the Lunar Receiving Lab in Houston. Johnston told reporters he believes that aliens once used the moon as an observation post to watch civilization evolve on Earth. He claims he was ordered to destroy negatives at the Johnson Space Center - but managed to save a set for posterity. (Evidently, the Conspiracy didn't quite do its job.)
"We're ready to tell the nation and the world," Johnston announced, "and let the evidence speak for itself."
NASA scientists pointed out that the photos - some made by lunar or- biters, others shot by astronauts - have been in the public domain for decades, and, interestingly, no one else has discovered the alleged alien-built crystalline palaces.
Hoagland said a "source" at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt leaked him a pristine negative from the Apollo 10 mission showing a 1 1/2 mile-high "shard" protruding from the lunar surface. "I cannot explain a feature like that on the face of the moon," said Ronald Nicks, a geologist on Hoagland's team.
"I see absolutely nothing like the so called shard," said Paul Lowman, a Goddard geologist and expert in orbital photography, after examining the frame cited at the news conference. "He's seeing some sort of a [photo] processing defect."
Lowman added: "Hoagland and people like him don't seem to realize that NASA has been looking for extraterrestrial life for 35 years.... We are the last agency on Earth that would hide such a thing - we'd all like to be the one on our way to Stockholm to get the Nobel Prize."
Tomorrow's news conference: Experts discuss archival footage revealing Jackie Gleason's face in the full moon.

Moon BeamsWashington- The man who souught to convincee the world there was a human-like face peering at us from Mars now is trying to show that someone, sometime, left "a glass dome" and other huge structures on the moon.
What's more, says Richard Hoagland, NASA knew it from photographs taken by Apollo astronauts and has been hiding the fact for nearly three decades.
"Our response is, it's not true," said NASA headquarters spokesman Brian Welch. "Everything we found, we made public.
Hoagland, who takes his claims of discovery on the lecture circuit, brought six engineers and scientists and a bunch of fuzzy photographs to a news conference to support his contention. He spoke of something called "hyperdimensional dynamics" at work on Mars, on the moon and in evidence at the ancient Stonehenge site in Great Britain.
Hoagland said recent reviews of pictures take on the lunar surface by the astronauts of Apollos 12 and 14 showed some of the structures.
"It's not true," said Alan Bean of Apollo 12. "No one, certainly not me and Pete Conrad, who I was with the whole time, saw anything that suggested ancient civilizations."
Hoagland described the objects that he said could be seen from official NASA photographs, most taken by Apollo astronauts, variously as "a Grecian Temple," looping cables, a large blob of glass and a 1 1/2-mile high formation he called a "shard".

Unfortunately, I don't have anything to add as yet regarding the press conference beyond what is already posted to this site.I would, however, like to compliment ISCNI's Ms. Rebecca Schatte for being the most fair and unbiased of all the many, many reports I saw.
GREAT NEWS I CAN REPORT is that Richard hoagland now has his own WWW page which will allow us to stay up with his work and efforts.
Check out http://www.maxinet.com/ufonews/mars.htm
Please also visit the site acknowledged in R. Hoagland's WWW page of one of the first friends I made upon getting on the Net who I've nick named "MALTA JOHN".

Tues. 4/26 7amLast night according to a conversation he had with him earlier in the day (Monday 4/25) Art Bell said that Richard Hoagland had a 4 hour meeting with Sara McClendon of the Washington Press Corp yesterday. Sara had been present at the Press Conference that Hoagland and Co. presented last Thursday at the National Press Club and had asked Richard immediately afterward to return this week and give her an extended private briefing of his info. He will return to the National Press Club this Thursday (I believe) on her invitation and urging to present his case to her inner circle of investigative journalists.

Hoagland says he has two photos from a Soviet mission in 1965 which shows anomalies, but these are going to be far shots from an orbiting spacecraft. Hoagland's other "new" photos are those which allegedly show domes and structures and ladders, etc., reflecting in the Apollo astronaut's sun visors as they were taking pictures of each other.
Hoagland said on Thursday night that ALL of the new photos would eventually be placed on Art Bell's web page, at http://www.artbell.com . I checked Saturday night, and so far there are no new images there. Chris

Chris,The photos have been placed yesterday at http://www.artbell.com/art/hoagland/index.html - and they're incredible !!
One of them shows an astronaut carrying a science package, and behind him a huge glass structure towers above the horizon. Another clearly shows a glass structure and its shadow, being reflected in an astronauts helmet! There are more amazing pictures but they are huge files 0.7 to 1 Mb.

Subject: Hoagland update 3/29
Richard Hoagland on the Art Bell
show overnight Thurs/Fri 3/28-29.Richard Hoagland was back on Art Bell for an hour this morning. He had a couple of important things to report.
His meeting with Sarah McClendon apparantly has gone *very* well ... he spent all of Wednesday evening at her apartment in DC with a group of her cohorts. Richard said that he considers that Sarah has 'come on board', that she is now 'one of the family' and that she is going to go to bat for him big time. In fact when he talked about the strange behavior of C-SPAN with regard to the press conference last week and wondered whether Brian Lamb of C-SPAN was going to run any of the last 45 minutes of the conference that they did get there in time to tape Sarah said that she knew Brian Lamb and that she would call him for Richard and ask him. Richard said that he feels that he has a real ally in Ms McClendon and that he feels free to call her with any questions and to brainstorm with on strategy to get his story across to the mainstream press and media.
And **attention** all you NYC folks. He had just come from a gallery opening at the Archetype Gallery in Soho where he and his crew had installed a display, planned in conjunction with the press conference, of raw negatives, prints, 6 ft mural versions etc of a bunch of his photo data of the Moon anomalies.
This display will stay up for some time .... so if you are travelling to NYC or live there put it on your 'must do' list *and report back*!!
Richard also was approached by *someone* (who he would not identify) at the opening who "has more money than God" who is interested in a private venture to go to the Moon with a probe and get the definitive "goods".
Also he mentioned being contacted by Mel Gibson's people the day after the Academy awards to set up a discussion about a possible 'movie project' on the subject.
One more thing ... apparantly NPR who did such a transparantly lame "humorous" hatchet job on Hoagland and the press conference on "All Things Considered" last week got enough negative feedback from people who had seen their 'report' that they did a bit of a 'retraction' on their show yesterday (Thursday). It must have been a 'rather large' reaction for them to actually go to the trouble. He is asking for anyone who saw it and especially anyone who may have taped it to contact him. He is interested in hearing about the show and especially wants to get a tape copy of it.
He (Hoagland) can be reached in a few ways: email to Art Bell's web site: Hoagland@artbell.com
