Mars was not always the desolate waste ground that we see today. Once it was populated by many varied lifeforms and even produced some intelligence. Huge fungus growths and Lichen forests sustained the simple Smegling farmers and huge obsidian quarries fed the Grey city Towers.
The Greys
The Greys used to be bold adventurers and brilliant scientists, but once the narcotic from the magic mushrooms was discovered they quickly became twisted, violent, warlike beings. They live in huge obsidian towers in the colder temperate zones to the north and south of Mars. They reguarly lead huge hunts to retrieve new slaves, magic mushrooms and the thrill of the kill.
They use what little remains of their advanced technology to gain the upper hand in war but it is now becoming worn out and dangerous to use. The knowledge of technology was lost long ago but the Greys are to stoned to even care.
The Smeglings
The Smeglings live in small family tribes and lead a nomadic life. They move with the herds across the great tropical plains found near the equator, farming the magic mushrooms and lichen on the way. Although Smeglings never fight between themselves, each village still provides strong, young warriors to fight the Grey hunting parties and protect the villages from the many monsters that live in the more remote areas.
At the top the Smegling society is the village chief - the stongest and oldest warrior. He is often at head of any battle, leading the tribe to victory. There are also the strange Shamans who cultivate the many fungi on Mars and know all of the secret magical ways.
As a whole the Smeglings have a low technology base but their alchemists and adventurers constantly come up with new inventions that sometimes even work.
Sharing the land with the Greys & Smeglings are many simpler animals. The most dangerous are the huge mosters that live in the most remote areas. These include the blood-thirsty Snow-Beasts of the north, dreaded Targa Eels that live in the depths and pTerals, demons from the air. All of these creatures must be faced in your trials to become a general worthy to lead troops.
