NewIcons 4.1 Update
===================

Well with all the major changes done in V4, I guess problems were to be
expected :) Fortunately, most were minor and quite easy to fix.

How to install:
---------------

You must have NewIcons v4.0 installed for this update to work. Simply
click on the two Update scripts in this main drawer to update the
binaries and the icons, respectively. The update_icons script will
also remove a couple of obsolete deficons that made their way into the
V4.0 package.

If you are using the LOW END NewIcon.library (that is, 68000 and/or 2.04
users), copy the libs/LE/NewIcon.library to libs: as well. Users of the
middle-end and high-end libraries do not need to update any library.

*** If you have not installed NewIcons 4 at all yet, grab the latest
full archive of version 4.1 instead of this update.

Changes since 4.0:
------------------

 · LE/newicon.library was accidently requiring graphics.library V39
instead of V37, so Kickstart 2.04 users were unable to run NI4 at all.

 · Icon TextMode can't work under 2.04 because pen handling was only
added in Kickstart 3.0. So it's now disabled under 2.x. (NewIcons
   and NewIconsPrefs)

 · Removed some debugging output that was forgotten in CreateDefaultIcon.

 · CreateDefaultIcon wouldn't properly create a disk.info file (it was
named '.info') if used from the CLI on a disk. Also, it can now
properly handle logical names, so 'CreateDefaultIcon t:' will
   properly create a Ram:T.info file.

 · Fixed all the icons in Icons/Misc/Disks and /Icons/Misc/Drawers. The old
icon structure was corrupt, causing CopyNewIcon to crash if run from the WB.

 · Fixed the drawer type deficons in envarcsys...same problem...damn C= Iconpos
   Program!

 · Changed misnamed envarcsys/def_Trash.info to def_trashcan.info

 · Changed misnamed envarcsys/def_CDDA.info to def_CDDAdisk.info

 · Changed misnamed envarcsys/def_CD0.info to def_CD0disk.info

 · Deleted obsolete deficons (def_zoo.info, def_zoom.info, def_arc.info,
   def_lzh.info, def_lha.info, def_tar.info)

 · Added deficons def_NETdisk.info, def_FTPdisk.info, def_RADdisk.info,
   def_mpeg.info and def_DTYP.info

 · Fixed Preview.gif...it no longer has transparency set. Not included in the
update file, but is in the full 4.1 archive.

 · Included deficons.prefs source.

 · Made a small change to the installer to hopefully identify 2.04 systems better for
installation of the Low End version of the newicon.library. (People, please
   upgrade...2.04 is ancient!)

Additional notes:
-----------------

 - If you're not sure about the installed version of the library, click
on the logo in NewIconsPrefs. The requester will show you what exact
   version you're currently running.

 - If the Installer script fails to compile, then your Installer needs
updating. Get the newest one off Aminet, located in
   util/misc/Installer-43_3.lha.

 - Scalos and DOpus Magellan users should use those programs's respective
   preferences editor rather than NewIconsPrefs.

 - The WB crawling ants not always being properly erased is a known
problem. We'll experiment with a possible fix in a future version.

 - In the future, Kickstart 2.04 as well as 68000 support will be
dropped. Why? Well, I could give you many reasons, but I'll keep
it to this one: it's called "Evolution". 2.04 is over 7 years old,
while 3.1 has been available for 4 years already.

If you need more reasons to upgrade, then keep in mind that a more
up-to-date userbase will be much more attractive to current as well
   as potential new developers.

 - Please use my new email address (merlin@thule.no) instead of the
former dream@step.polymtl.ca. Also, note that the libertel.qc.ca
address is gone since almost a year now - our local Freenet lasted an
   impressive three months. Sigh.

 - Various persons asked if I'd publicly reply to the MagicWB author
regarding his attacks against NI in his FAQ. Well, NewIcons V4 itself
IS our reply. End of the story. :)
