SEMI SHADY MOIST LAPAGERIA ROSEA GENUS LILIACEA -------------- --------------- -------------- CLIMBER 180cm or More EVERGREEN PEAT COMPOST FLOWERS Red -------------------- --------- ----------- ----------- Although this is not usually considered as a house plant,it just had to be mentioned because of its great beauty. The drawback,is,you have to grow it from seed, for adult plants cannot be moved from pot to pot, they resent this treatment profoundly. Growing from seed is not difficult, but the seed must be fresh and not dried out.Pre-germinated seeds can be bought and these are to be preferred.Patience is required,as the seedlings do not seem to grow much in the early stages.Start the seedlings off in the pot they will stay in as adults, this should be about a 12 inch size.Keep moist at all times with gentle spraying and feeding.Canes can be inserted at the sides of the pot as the plants begin to climb.Plants should flower at 2 years, sometimes earlier. The plant prefers an acid peaty compost,so choose one of the ericaceous composts or use pure peat.Dont forget to feed as the plant grows, with phostrogen or similar food. The plant should flower naturally as it matures. This is usually around autunm time or later and can look wonderful around Christmas time.I use the green plastic coated metal stakes to let the plant climb,as these are permanent and dont rot at soil level. One plant per 12 inch pot is recommended. It will look lost for a while but in the long term it will be glorious....SEE PICTURE
