THE FOUR CRAFTY ROBBERS ------------------------- This trick comes with a few different names so you may already know it as another. For those who don't know it, here goes. You tell your audience about four crafty robbers who break into a building. At this point you show them four jacks out of the deck. "The first one," you say, "explores the cellar." and you place the first jack into the deck near the bottom. "The second robber, he checks out the lower floors." and you place the 2nd jack into the deck near to the middle. "The third robber, he checks out the upper floors." This jack you place close to the top of the deck. "The fourth and final robber, is wary, and decides to stay on the roof and keep a lookout." the final jack gets placed on the very top of the deck. "The police arrive sirens wailing and the lookout shouts down for the others to come up to the roof to make good their escape." You ruffle the deck and hey presto, you draw off the very top four cards and lo and behold all the robbers have come to the roof. More than four jack's in the deck? Here's how! Before you start to tell the story you have to set up how you show the four jacks. Place the jacks face down on a table and put any other three playing cards on top. Fan the jacks out and make sure the three cards are behind the final jack, so straight, they can't be seen. Hold the fan like this as you show your audience. To them it will look like four jacks. See Diagram. Close the fan and turn the cards over. When you place the first "jack" robber into the cellar of the deck, you are really placing the first dummy card. Then the second into the middle and he third near to the top. When you place the fourth robber onto the roof (top of deck ), do so quite quickly and it will not be noticed that what you have just done in fact, is put all four jacks onto the top of the deck. When you ruffle the deck, hey presto it will seem like all four robbers have indeed legged it to the roof to make their getaway. The Four Crafty Robbers ----------------------- GUESS THE CARD -------------- For this trick, you need to put four cards face up in front of your victim. Explain to them that each card has to total 10. Example: 1) 3 hearts 2) 6 spades 3) King diamonds 4) 7 clubs. To make card one 10, you will have to put 7 card on top of the 3 hearts. Card 2 you would have to put 4 cards, Card 3 you wouldn't put any because Jack, Queen & Kings are counted as 10. Card 4 you would put three cards on top to make 10. Make sure though, when placing the extra cards on top, that you can still see the origional 4 Cards. Ask your victim to add up the total of the first 4 cards, the origional 1st four that you put down. The total in the example would be 26. Count 25 cards off the rest of the remaining deck and then before you turn the 26th card, tell your victim that you are going to name the card, and then do so. Oh yes, I'd better tell you how to do it..... Before the trick begins, always look at the NINTH card from the bottom of the deck. This will always be the 26th card as in the example or if the total of the cards was 13 - the 13th Card etc. GUESS THE CARD --------------
