You may remember this game from a preview in CU Amiga quite a while
ago, I as many others thought that it had gone the way of many other
Amiga games, this was totally untrue and the game is now with us.
Damage is a 'odd' game from a group Suomi-Peli in Finland. It is a game
that will not appeal to everyone and if you offended by violence and
lots of blood in games I suggest you stop reading now. This is
the kind of game that the newspaper press would probably rip to
shreads
The game essentially revolves around you walking a long a 2D landscape
and killing people. You take the role of a formerly exemplary man
called Mike Massacre (Original, huh? ;). And it is you job to walk
along the streets of a normal city and kill as many people as possible.
How you do this depends on what weapons you have, you start the game
with a primitive baseball bat hacking passers by. Soon you will be
able to get other weapons such as chainsaws, shotguns and machine guns.
The enemies get harder too as the police and national guard soon come
along.....
The game was started in '93 and since then the programmers believe they
have spent over 10,000 hours creating the ideal game. The game doesn't
boast excellent graphics as the programmers have gone more for gameplay
then anything else, although the game does feature over 2000 frames of
animation and 150 background screens. There are some very nice
sound effects in there too.
After playing the demo I was moderatly impressed, the control is a
little difficult to get used too. The animation, however, is very
smart and you do get an odd felling mowing loads of people down
with a machine gun, things can get a little worrying when the tanks
turn up though.
This is a very quirky title and will not appeal to everyone, I very
much suggest that you check out the demo of the game to see what you
think. The game is baing marketed by the authors, probably 'cause a
commercial release would probably be banned ;).
