The islands are not suited for agriculture, but some vegetables are grown and livestock kept for local consumption. |RHistory:|N The islands were settled from France in the 17th century. It became a French territory in 1816, from 1976 it was made a French Overseas Territory and in 1985 a Territorial Collectivity.
