Grand Prix 2 ************ I'm sure you've probably heard about GP 2 already. It's Geoff Crammond's sequel to F1GP and it was released for PC CD-ROM in July 1996. It requires at least a 486-DX66 PC (a Pentium is recommended though), CD-ROM drive and at least 8Mb RAM! It is even more realistic with even more car setup options (30 variables for suspension alone!), and you can enable different levels of mechanical failures. It is clear that MicroProse have no intention of converting it to the Amiga as the reality is that they don't develop Amiga games any more. About the only hope is if Amiga International get their act together and release a reasonably priced Power Amiga which will knock the socks of any Pentium PCs. Then MicroProse have no real excuse not to convert it to the Amiga. More importantly, such a machine may drag Geoff Crammond away from the PC - after all, it was the increased processing power and speed available in expensive PCs which dragged Geoff away from the Amiga! It is a fact that GP 2 needs lots of processing power - it is not possible to get a decent frame rate (ie 20fps) at full detail on 200MHz Pentium! The other option is for another developer to take on the conversion, as it is obvious that AGA Amigas can handle such a game (especially accelerated ones), but this will require negotiations with Geoff and MicroProse. OTM (the company that published Virtual Karting) were initially interested in doing the conversion. Alledgedly, they asked MicroProse but they couldn't afford the license fee that MicroProse were asking. As you may know clickBOOM (http://www.ican.net/~clkboom) are converting Myst to the Amiga, and they also plan to convert some more games too. They have set up a "conversion wish list" on their web site where people can vote for games they would like to see converted to the Amiga. GP 2 is on this list, so if you have access to the internet, submit your vote for GP 2: http://home.ican.net/~clkboom/conversions.html
