Until someone writes a Laserwriter driver for the Mac that doesn't require a network connection, Shapeshifter users will have trouble sending Postscript files to the printer. You can do it by printing the file to disk, transferring it to the Amiga and copying it to the parallel port where the printer lives. This is a bit tedious. I asked Didier Levet to write an icon driven script that simplifies the process. (Didier is the guy who wrote P96_TurboSVD, the best Shapeshifter video driver for Picasso.) This little iconx dos script makes it possible to move those Postscript files to your printer in just a couple of mouse clicks. To use MacPrint, make sure you have selected a late version of Mac's Laserwriter 8 printer driver in the Chooser. When you print from within a program, you get a requester that will allow you to select the option 'To File.' Save the file in a folder called ToPrinter on the Mac's boot disk. Next, double click on the (Amiga) MacPrint icon. This will automatically start the MacHandler which allows the Amiga to read the Mac disk. Then it brings up a standard file requester displaying the contents of Mac:ToPrinter. Double click on the file you wish to print and that file is on its way to the printer. Remember, this assumes you have a Postscript printer connected to your parallel port. For MacPrint to run MacHandler, you must make sure the MacHandler file is in DEVS:DOSDrivers/MAC. If you wish to stash this file somewhere else, please use a script editor to enter the correct path in MacPrint. Directions for this are in the script. If you find this little program useful, please let me know, and I will thank Didier for all of us. If you know someone who can modify Mac's Laserwriter8 printer driver to accept direction to the Amiga's parallel port, that would be even better. Richard Starr starrfarr@valley.net
