************************************** * Babylon 5 White Star Version 2.0 * ************************************** Public Release Version 2.0 October 10th 1996 This is the first public release of the new Vorlon/Minbari ship from Babylon 5: The WHITE STAR. This includes a template scene which is used to place all the lights and lens flares in their correct positions, and to align the constituent objects properly. The template scene WS_Setup does not include a main illuminating light, so use the template by loading it into an existing scene through the "LOAD FROM SCENE" function, importing the lights along with the objects. This model uses the file-naming convention of a Windows 3.1 PC, so it should be loadable to all users of Lightwave on any platform. I have made an effort to utilise only functions which are compatible with LW3.5, for maximum compatibility and rendering speed, but should anyone wish to modify the surfaces "WS Lighting Strips" and "WS Lighting Reflectors" to use the GLOW attribute available to users of version 4.0 and above, feel free to do so for your own personal use. This release includes two main objects: WHITSTAR.LWO : The main object for the White Star WS_LASER.LWO : The beam weapon employed by the White Star There are also three additional objects in the release: KIERSTAR.LWO : A large starfield object for use in the example scene. Z'HA'DUM.LWO : A VERY large planet object, also for the demo scene. NEBULA_3.LWO : One of my many nebulae objects which makes the White Star look very sexy. Used in the example scene. There are eight main texture maps in IFF format: COCKPIT.IFF L_L_WING.IFF L_U_WING.IFF R_L_WING.IFF R_U_WING.IFF LOWRNOSE.IFF TAILFINS.IFF UPPRHULL.IFF The IFF maps use sixteen colours and are perfectly adequate for most purposes... but I do have the 24 bit maps just in case you have memory to burn... (And if this is the case, how about sending me some!!!) There are also two 24bit maps for the planet and the nebula. Should you use these models in any productions or animations, please let me know about it and tell me where I can see the results of your work. Enjoy. Look out for more Babylon 5 clone models which are now nearing completion and coming soon, including Generation 2 Starfury : estimated completion November '96 Earthforce Heavy Cruiser (eg. Agammemnon) : estimated November '96 Narn Heavy Cruiser : estimated December '96 Minbari Heavy Cruiser : estimated Christmas '96 Email me for news on completion and expect to see the new models on future releases of Light ROM. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Many thanks to Dean Scott; "the original and best" B5 Cloner whose models I use all the time, and whose copyright text I have blatantly stolen because it looks good and gets the message across. I should also mention that some of the objects used on the example rendered images are Dean Scott's work, and the WS_Laser object is based upon the Vorlon Laser from his Ambassador class Vorlon ship object. Also great respect to Ron Thornton and his minions at Foundation Imaging whose imagination and technical skill seem to know no bounds. Anyone need any work done? My department charges very reasonable rates and the quality of finish should be self-evident. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here are the various ways of reaching me, the author: snail-mail: Kier Darby National Centre for Computer Animation Poole House Fern Barrow Poole BH12 5BF ENGLAND Internet Email: u9500747@bournemouth.ac.uk WWW Homepage: erm... under construction, available soon. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- COPYRIGHT MESSAGE AND DISCLAIMER.
