@node "0." "Introduction"

Imp Master is the Ultimate in Import utilties.

It gives you the control you need over the mail you read.

Using a powerful set of import processors,
It'll mark mail that's of interest to you
as for you, and build lightning fast lists
of important messages for random access
                to messages.

It also provides you with a comprehensive report of all
processing done so you can see at a glance what imp-master
has done, and whether you need more or less processing
        to be done

Imp Master works in 2 way's

It can Mark mail as unreplied giving you sequential
access via Alt-Tab, for those heavy mail sessions,
Where you need fast acces to more than just personal
            mail.

Or Super-Fast lists giving direct access to any
message anywhere in your message base. The lists
can be split into separate topics, so you can
have lists for Personal mail, giving you random
access to any message to you in any echo. and
             for Mail on specific subjects.

Currently Imp Master has these processes.

GMA- Give Me : Mail addressed to all will be marked as unreplied
        All

QLA-Quick List : Mail addressed to all will be built into a list
       All

GMS- Give Me : Mail with a specific subject is marked as unreplied
      Subject

QLS- Quick List : Mail with a specific subject is built into a list
      Subject

GMF- Give Me : Mail from a certain person will be marked as unreplied
      From

QLF- Quick List : Mail from a certain person will be built into a list

QLD- Quick List : Messages Containing UUencodes will be decoded and built
      UUdecode : Into a list!

NNA - Nuke Not : Nukes mail not addressed to All
       All

EMF - EMail : Reads the "FROM:" kludge supplied by the Aspects
From : gateway to save you getting mail From UUCP

RRR- Receipt : Finally makes use of Fidos Receipt request Flag
Request : Will Post an Automatic Reply to Mail address to

     Request

MLH- Mailing : Imp master can maintain a complex mailing list
List : where people can join and leave freely and
Handler : you can easily post to all members of the list

Imp-master is also FULLY Modular meaning that you can EASILY
use sections of useful code in your own programs. Or Improve
Imp-Master to suit our own tastes. Imp_master also uses the
minimum amont of memory the Master script occupies 16k with
       the modules loading when needed

Imp Master is *THE* most complete suite of import tools for Spot

Other programs may perfom the individual tasks of
ImpMaster but Impmaster does it all!

To become a Member of the Imp-Master Mailing List which will give you up
to-date information about the latest releases of Imp-Master Simply netmail

@node "2." "Installation"

To Install impmaster run the ImpInstall.rexx script provided it will inform
you of any problems it encounters

Then Read very carefully the section on configuring.

After you understand what all the processors do, and what processing you
think you want, simply run the ImpEd.Spot script. It will take you through
the configuration painlessly (As long as you know what you want doing)

Imp-master will look after everything else for you

Any directories that need to be made will.

And when MailList.Spot needs to load an editor it will read your Spot.Pref
file and load in your Spot editor!

It's that simply to install, no need to get your hands dirty in the prefs
file unless you want to, ImpEd will do it all!

The ImpEd.Spot Script is Slow so if you feel confident it is always best to
edit the Imp.Pref by Hand

After Installation and Configuration to run Imp-Master select Imp-Master
from the Arexx menu or execute the arexx script

REXX:SPOT/IMPMASTER/IMPMASTER

--------------------------------

For the Die Hards Among you this is a run down of what the Install script
will do

This is what the script will do

Check for REXX: MAIL: and LIBS:rexxsupport.library

Copy All the following files

For the Main Script

 rexx:spot/Impmaster/impmaster
 rexx:spot/StoreStat
 rexx:spot/ReStoreStat
 rexx:spot/impmaster/readprefs
 rexx:spot/ReadPrefs
 rexx:spot/unreadareas
 rexx:spot/updatenewmail

For the Processors

 rexx:spot/AddToList
 rexx:spot/uudecode
 rexx:spot/QuickSearch
 rexx:spot/newmail
 rexx:spot/marknewmail

And Finally all the Imp-Master Processors

 rexx:spot/Imp/GMM
 rexx:spot/Imp/UUD
 rexx:spot/Imp/QLD
 rexx:spot/Imp/INT
 rexx:spot/Imp/QLM
 rexx:spot/Imp/QLI
 rexx:spot/Imp/GMA
 rexx:spot/Imp/QLA
 rexx:spot/Imp/GMS
 rexx:spot/Imp/GMF
 rexx:spot/Imp/QLS
 rexx:spot/Imp/QLF
 rexx:spot/Imp/NNA
 rexx:spot/Imp/MLH
 rexx:spot/Imp/COU
 rexx:spot/Imp/EMF
 rexx:spot/Imp/PNR
 rexx:spot/Imp/NFA

then it will READ your Spot.Prefs to find out your Arexx path and copy
these tp the appropriate directory

 QuickList.Spot
 MailList.Spot
 ImpEd.Spot
 PutInList.Spot

THEN IT WILL WRITE TO YOUR SPOT PREFS!

It will add some command to the arexx menu if you object to this Installby
HAND

@endnode

@node "3." "Configuration"
Imp-Master uses an Ascii prefs file located at Mail:Imp.Prefs When
processing a large number of areas this file can get confusing, so I wrote
ImpEd.Spot to help you set it up initially.

Although when you want to add new processes or remove useless ones you'll
have to edit the Imp.Pref directly, it's not too complicated though.

Imp Master currently has these processes

GMA- Give Me : Mail addressed to all will be marked as unreplied
        All

QLA-Quick List : Mail addressed to all will be built into a list
       All

GMS- Give Me : Mail with a specific subject is marked as unreplied
      Subject

QLS- Quick List : Mail with a specific subject is built into a list
      Subject

GMF- Give Me : Mail from a certain person will be marked as unreplied
      From

QLF- Quick List : Mail from a certain person will be built into a list
       From

INT- Intercept : Mail to a person will be marked as unreplied

QLI- Quick List : Mail to a person will be built into a list

GMM- Give Me : A message even containing a keyword will be marked
     Mention : as for you!

QLM- Quick List : Messages containing a keyword will be built into a list
     Mention

UUD- Uudecode : Messages containing UUencodes will be decoded and marked
                 : as for you!

QLD- Quick List : Messages Containing UUencodes will be decoded and built
      UUdecode : Into a list!

PNR- Process : Netmails to a server address will be responed to with
     Netmail : an automatic request.
     Request

MLH- Mailing : Imp master can maintain a complex mailing list
List : where people can join and leave freely and
Handler : you can easily post to all members of the list

NNA- Nuke : Deletes mail that is NOT addressed from All
Not : I use this in Areas liek Buy where I'm only
All : interested in Stuff for sale.

NFA- Nuke : This is to complement a feature missing
From : From Spot's TwitList. You can now Twit
Address : people by their address.

COU - Clear : When Using GMA or another GM Processor
Old : You may find that Unreplied Mail starts
Unreplied : to collect at the bottom of your message base
: Spot won't delete this mail as it's unreplied
: This process earches out messages that are not
: addressed to you but are unreplied, and it clears them

EMF - Email : If you recieve InterNet Email from the Aspects Gateway
From : You'll notice when you replyThe quotes appear as U> and
: You get a Hi UUCP at the top of your message this
Process
: Will read the FROM: kludge and place it in the Spot
header

RRR - Reply : Automatically Replies to mail address ed to you with
Receipt : the receipt request flag set.
Request : Informs you of it's action by adding RR: to the subject

Now you've read that decide what actions you want to affect each area with,
any List ID's you need etc. then run Impconfig.Spot it will take you step by
step through each area on your system asking you what actions you wish to
have affect that area.

Any info needed for that process wil be requested from you

The format of the Imp.Pref is as follows

-------------

The IMP.PREF file MUST start with the line

Imp Master V1

(This is to prevent incompatibilities with later releases of Imp-Master)

and is split into 2 sections divided by a

---

there must be *3* dashes IMP will report unexpected end of file if these are
not present!

The first section of the IMP.PREF is to configure the IMP environment

You MUST have these fields present in the first section

 NAME <your name>
 ADDRESS <Your Netmail Address>
REPORT <NET name of echo to post report in>
 UUDECODE <UUDECODE COMMAND>

*MUST BE INSTALLED EVEN IF YOU DON'T USE UUD/QLD*

My preferred UUDECODE command is Sencode, as this will handle ANY form of
text encoding Including FScode which promises to replace Uu-encoding, Future
versions of Imp-Master *will* include filters to search out ALL forms of
File encoding and decode them!

These fields can appear in any order BUT MUST APPEAR BEFORE the section
separator

---

The second section is the actual Processing information

It takes the general form of

Action Area Extradata

Action is the 3 letter acronym, of the action you require

All actions require an area to act on, the area is the echo tag name that
that action should apply to

e.g.

GMA PENPAL_UK

looks in PENPAL_UK and any mail addressed to ALL will be marked as
Unreplied

NNA BUY

Looks in area BUY and nukes maill addressed to anyone excpet all and
yourself

The build list actions also require a LIST ID, List commands take the
format

ACTION AREA LISTID EXTRAINFO

e.g.

QLA PENPAL_UK PenPal-Wanted

Will build a list called PenPal-Wanted, and in that list all mail addressed
to all in the penpal area will be stored

The List ID allways follows the area.

UUD also requires the path to extract the uuencode to so it's format is

UUD AREA PATH

or

QLD AREA LISTID PATH

INTercept and GMF need the names to intercept from/to

e.g.

INT AREA TO

QLF AREA LISTID FROM

PNR needs 2 extra bits of info

The requestID and the file to post back

e.g.

PNR AREA REQID FILETOPOST

MLH needs the Mailing-List ID E.g.

MLH NET_2_250_563 Imp-Master

 A Few Notes
 -----------

The order in which the process lines appear is not important at all. Imp
Master will happily jump between message areas, for each process. But to
speed things up if you group the actions together by area then Imp MAster
will not need to swap areas as much. E.G

 UUD WORKBENCH RAM:
 GMA WORKBENCH
 NNA BUY
 GMA PENPAL_UK

will work faster than

 UUD WORKBENCH RAM:
 GMA PENPAL_UK
 NNA BUY
 GMA WORKBENCH

beacause in the bottom case Imp Master has to generate the Message list
twice whereas in the top the message list is already generated so the GMA
can happen immediately.

Using the ImpEd.Spot Will Automatically Optimize your Prefs File.

For Full information on the command specs see the Quick Reference.
@endnode

@node "4." "Using"

Imp Master can be ran whenever you feel like it, although straight after an
import would be best, to be sure that Imp Master can trap mail before you
get chance to mark it as Read.

Every Time you run Imp Master it will generate a report for you. Telling
you.

What it has done, where, and how much.

The format of the report is as English as I could make it

It generally follows this format

 -------------------
                         Mail Marked As Unreplied
 --------------------

Any processes which marked mail as unreplied.

Each individual process report will take this form

 -----------------
GMA - Give Me All Processed

   28 in area COMMS_UK
   24 in area ECHO-NEWS
   12 in area DREAMS
    5 in area PASCAL
    4 in area MATHS.ACA
   29 in area PENPAL_UK
    8 in area WORKBENCH
    5 in area AMIGA_MAGS
   43 in area AMIGA
    2 in area SPOT
    3 in area AMIGA_PROG

 GMA Processed 163 Messages
 ------------

Telling you all the relevant information and totalling it up for you.

At the end of the unrepliedsection a message informing you of how many
messages are now marked as unreplied is given to you

 -------------
Total Mail Marked as Unreplied 163
 --------------

Then follows the quick list section

 ------------
                         Mail Added to Quick Lists
 ------------

Each quick list process has it's own section of this format

 ------------
QLS - Quick List Subject Processed

5 With Subject ESCOM In Area WORKBENCH Listed To Escom
2 With Subject ESCOM In Area AMIGA_MAGS Listed To Escom
156 With Subject ESCOM In Area AMIGA Listed To Escom

 QLS Processed 163 Messages
 ----------

Giving you information relevant to that process and a process total

at the end of the quick list is the line

 --------------
Total Mail Added to Quick Lists 334
 ---------------

Then the UUencode Section

 ----------
                             UUEncodes Decoded
 ----------

Which looks like this

 ----------------
QLD - Quick List UUDecode Processed

1 UUdecode From AMIGA To MAIL:UUDECODES/ Listed To UUEncodes

 QLD Processed 1 Messages

    1 UUEnecodes Added to lists

 Total Messages UUDecoded 1
 -----------------

Then Miscellaneous

Including NNA,RRR,COU,EMF etc

 -------------

NNA - Nuke Not All Nuked

   36 From BUY
    9 From MARKET

   45 Erased From Message Base
 ------------

And finally any Mailing list Handler Information in a similar plain english
style

To help with Quicklists I suggest using FKEY or some similar program to
assign the script

SPOT:REXX/QUICKLIST.SPOT

to a hotkey the best key to assign it to would be "numericpad ." right next
to "numericpad 0" =)
@endnode

@node "PNR" "Post Net Requests"
Post Net Request can be thought of as a Mini Mailing list where you just
need to post 1 file to a person when they request it, just to save you the
trouble of posting it yourself.

To use a PNR a person will have to send a message in the PNR Area (Should be
netmail with a subject that matches the REQID, when this happens the file
indicated in the prefs will be posted back to that person by netmail.

Quick And Simple
@endnode

@node "QL" "Quick Lists"
Quick Lists are Import-masters faster (But less informative) version of
Spots Message List.

Except that an Imp Quick List will list only mail that you request to be put
into that list. You can have as many different lists as you desire, and mail
from different areas may be combined in the same list!

E.g.

Heres an Excerpt from my Imp.Pref

 QLA ECHO-NEWS General_All
 QLI SPOT Personal Steven Pearson

All messages addressed to All in Comms_Uk Will appear in the General_All
Quick List any Mail to Me in the SPot echowill be put in the personal
QuickList

When you select a message from a list you are moved into the correct area
and shown the message you requested.

You use Impmasters QL? processors to build Quick Lists and then the
QuickList.Spot script to move around the lists.

When you are moved to your requested message a requestor will appear asking
you

if you wish to "Remove" this message from the QuickList or "Keep" the
message in the quicklist

or If the message is also Unreplied you will be given the option to "Forget"
the message, it will remove it from the list AND mark it as replied so you
don't see it again using the list or Alt-tab.

* WARNING *

QuickList's uses messagenumbers to arive at the correct message, if you have
deleted anymail through, a Maintenace or a standard delete then QuickList's
may point to the wrong message!

If QuickList see's it's not where it's supposed to be it will jump into the
message list and look for the correct message for you.

It'll search back 400 messages or until the top of the message list

*** Feature Alert ***

QuickList.Spot Takes Several Parameters and works quite strangely but tries
to be intuitive.

Calling QuickList.Spot alone will goto thenext message in the current
quicklist, if no quicklist is current then the File requester will open.

Calling "QuickList.Spot GUI" will force QuickList.Spot to open the
filerequester, With the current quicklist active.

Callung "QuickList.Spot List-ID" will force Quicklist to move to the next
meaage in List-ID Quicklist.

I have "QuickList.Spot" assigned by FKEY to my Numericpad . sothat i can tap
through quickLists tomy hearts content =)

And on the menu I have Quicklist.Spot Gui and Several QuickList.SPot
ListID's so i can go where i want fast =)
@endnode

@node "PIL" "Put In List Spot"
Put In List Spot is designed to give you access to Quick-Lists without
needing to run Imp-Master.

It simply takes the current message and requests which list you wish to add
it to. Then adds it.

Of course checking if it's already in the list.

PutInList.Spot also takes 1 parameter that will cause it to put the message
into that List no questions asked.

this would be useful for maintaining a list that can't be built by
conventional Imp-Master Processes, like messages that are of specific
interest to you.
@endnode

@node "COU" "Clear Old Unreplied Info"
When you Use any of the GMA Processes it's easy to forget that messages are
marked as unreplied, and as such Spot will never delete them, So if you
forget to Marke them As replied they will collect at the bottom of you're
message base.

This is where COU comes in, it will search the bottom of your area for
unreplied mail, if it finds any it will mark it as replied (But leave it in
the Message base) in case any Quick List Links exist to it.

COU will normally Nuke any mail that is unreplied at the bottom of the
message base, but you can tell it to Keep Personal mail, that is mail
addressed specifically to the name you give in the Imp.Pref. This way Any
GMA type mail will dissapear but Not any mail that is addressed to you. To
activate this feature Select KeepPersonal in ImpEd.Spot or use the
KEEPPERSONAL Keyword After "COU Area" e.g. "COU Comms_UK KEEPPERSONAL"

this is an ascii file, of the format

 Name @ Address
 Name @ Address

So you can easily edit it yourself.

Also it's the same format used by the script BryCC.Spot so you can use that
topost to mailing lists as well!

The files that are posted on user requests are stored in the file
MAIL:<Mailing List ID>.MLP

This is a prefs file of the format

ADDTEXT <Name of file to post on ADD Request> REMOVETEXT <Name of file to
Post on REMOVE request> INFOTEXT <Name of file to post on INFO Request>

So you can easily change the files that are to be posted. either by editing

To setup your own mailing list Run the MailList.Spot script.

It will ask you if you wish to post to a mailing list, create a new mailing
list or delete a mailing list.

Select Create.

You will then be asked for a Mailing List ID

Enter a 1 Word ID for the mailing list.

For people to join your mailing list they will have to post a message to
this name so make it relevant.

Your Spot Message Editor will then load.

You should Type in a message that will be posted to people who join your
Mailing list.

So your message should confirm that the person has been added toy our
mailing list and tell them what they can expect to recieve.

Save the file and your editor will reload again.

This time you should enter a message that will inform someone that they have
been removed from your mailing list.

Save, and once again the editor will reload.

This time enter a message that will be posted to someone who requests
information on your mailing list. So that they can decide whether to join
later.

Finally MailList.Spot will create allt he necessary mailing list files

If you wish to tailor these scripts to fit your own needs then you may BUT
You MUST NOT DISTRIBUTE the edited scripts, and you MUST NOT claim to have
written the scripts yourself.

If you feel that your alterations are good enough to have installed in the
next version of ImpMaster then PLEASE netmail me and I'll be only to happy
to include your alterations in the official release, and of course mention
that you wrote the specific section.

If you think you're alterations are Brilliant but are unable to reach me Via
Netmail at 2:250/563.12 then talk to my Boss "Bob Wilson" @ 2:250/563 he
will know what has happened to me =)

I will ALWAYS HAve Receipt Request Enabled so this is a sure fire way of
telling if a message has reached me!

If you are unable to contact me and it seems that work on Imp-Master has
stopped Then you may release your edited script but INDICATE CLEARLY THAT IT
IS AN UNOFFICIAL VERSION OF IMP-MASTER!

You MUST Retain the Imp-Master Name and my name MUST appear in the
Imp-Reports and ALL Imp-Master Associated Scripts! You may remove my address
though to avoid confusion.

@node "6." "Bugs"
The only BugTtype thing's I know of so far are.

If you try to set up a mailing list but have configured your spot Editor
Incorrectly you will get an ERROR. Read The Spot Docs On setting uo an
Editor.

If you run out of memory when building the message list you'll have to
manually press the OK button. This is Spots Fault.

If a Message contains a High-Ascii character in the Header then the
QuickLists will bomb out, Imp-Master will continue unaffected!

If Imp Master Misbehaves for you then PLEASE drop me a netmail at

@node "EMF" "Email From Info"
I recently Started to use the Internet gateway at Aspects on a regular
basis, I have some friends at college on the Internet and it's pretty useful
to be able to chat to them over the holidays =)

But I started to notice that the Gateway was posting mail to me addressed
from UUCP so When I reply I get Something Like this

-------------
 Hi UUCP

 U> Wibble Wibble Wibble
 U> Wibble Wibble

-------------

When what I wanted was

-------------
 Hi Creedy

 JC> Wibble Wibble
 JC> Wibble Wibble

-------------

This Began to Bug me, At the top of every message from the Gateway is a line
"FROM:" then the Email Address of that person, I thought that'd be more
useful than UUCP so I set about moving it from inside the message to inside
the Header. EMF is what I made =)

AFAIK It'll only work with Email from the Aspects Gateway, The 2:25/25 one
doesn't seem touse the same format, If I get more mailfrom 2:25/25 then I'll
set about changing EMF to work with both.

@node "RRR" "Reciept Request Reply"
When I sent my first netmail message to a local point the first thing I did
was ro press all the buttons I could find.

The receipt request looked really useful I could see if my First message
arrived where it was supposed to have, or if my m8 was just ignoring me.

Imagine my dissapointment when the receipt request never arrived. receiving
my first netmail made up for it though =)

Well now times are changing. Witht he Wonders of Spot and Arexx Receipt
Requests are possible.

RRR -Receipt Request Reply

will scan an area of your choice (It MUST be netmail as Receipt Request
flags cannot be sent in echomail!) for messages with the Receipt request
flag sent

when it finds one it will post a small reply in the form

/YourName/ received your message about /subject/ on /datearrived/

So thatthe person involved can be sure you got the message and that you will
reply as soon as you have the time =)
