Well, it is program to control your @{b}ZIP 100@{ub} drive from IOMEGA. It can protect and unprotect your zip disks. If you don't know your ZIP drive is capable of protecting disks in different formats: - write protection (can't write to disk) - write protection with password (can't write to disk and to unprotect you have to know the password) - read & write protection with password (can't neither read or write to disk and to unprotect password is required) - unprotect (cancel protection with or without password ) - temporarily unprotect (cancel protection with or without password; after reinserting the disk protection is installed again) Note that if you forget the password you @{b}CANNOT UNDONE PROTECTION@{ub}. ZipTools will be copied to sys:utilities directory and one font to fonts:. Drawer ZipTools_CZ contains czech version of ZipTools. Use Install script in this drawer if you want to install czech version. @endnode ## ## @node Usage "Usage" @prev Installation @next Problems @{b}Usage@{ub} @{b}ZipTools@{ub} V2.0 can be used both from CLI and workbench. From CLI (or SHELL) simply type all parameters you need after the program name. From workbench double click ZipTools icon. Before you can start ZipTools from workbench you have to specify 2 tooltypes in @{i}tooltypes@{ui} window (opens when you select @{i}Information...@{ui} item from workbench menu. These tooltypes are: @{b} DEVICE= UNIT= @{ub} Scsi.device stands for the name of software device which controls your SCSI controller. Almost every hardware manufacturer uses its own scsi.device (if you own turboboard Blizzard III or IV, the name is 1230scsi.device). See SCSI controller manual for name of the scsi.device. ZIP's ID number is identification number of the hardware connected to scsi controller. For ZIP drive it can be only 5 or 6 (see back of your ZIP drive). Possible parameters for CLI/SHELL use are: @{b}DEVICE @{ub} Name must be given! This can be for example 1230scsi.device if you own Blizzard SCSI kit. @{b}ID @{ub} ID means number of unit you want to address. Valid range is from 0-7 (up to 7 hardware units can be connected to your scsi port). ID must be also entered. ZIP drive can use only ID 5 or 6. @{b}INFO@{ub} INFO causes ZipTools to read state of protection of your ZIP disk: protected / unprotected / temporarily unprotected / password used... @{b}WPROTECT [PASSWORD name]@{ub} WPROTECT sets write protection. If you specify password, you have to remember it. It is needed for unprotection. @{b}RWPROTECT @{ub} RWPROTECT sets read & write protection. Password is always needed. @{b}UNPROTECT [PASSWORD name]@{ub} UNPROTECT cancels protection. If this is protection with password you have to specify it. @{b}TUNPROTECT [PASSWORD name]@{ub} TUNPROTECT cancels temporarily protection. When you remove the disk from drive and then reinsert it again it will get protected again. Also password is needed if you want to undo protection with password. @{b}EJECT@{ub} EJECT simply throws out disk in drive. @{b}SHUTDOWN@{ub} SHUTDOWN turns off motor of your ZIP drive. Thus you will prolong life of your disk and even save elecricity. When you access the disk it will be turned on automatically. ZIP drives also have automatic sleep time mode which spins down motor after approximately 15 minutes. @{b}PREVENT@{ub} PREVENT locks eject mechanism so you are not able to eject the disk ( neither manually nor with ZipTools ). To unlock it you have to use option ALLOW. @{b}ALLOW@{ub} ALLOW unlocks eject mechanism of you ZIP drive so you will be able to eject disk either manually or with ZipTools @{b}ERASE@{ub} ERASE option is the only way how cancel password protection if you have forgotten the password. It will erase whole disk. Remember that erasing whole disk will DESTROY ALL DATA ON DISK !!! Use this feature with extreme caution! @{b}?@{ub} ? just shows info about usage. Note: SHUTDOWN cancels PREVENT. If you want to stop motor and retain eject locking (PREVENT) run ZipTools two times. Well you don't have to know it. Starting with version 2.0 of @{b}ZipTools@{ub} you can cancel the password by simply erasing whole disk but you will also lost all ziptools program contained there (this disk contains programs only for Macintosh or PC computers).
