CpuControl Release 1.06 --- October 1996 This text and the contents of the archive wherein this document was found are ©1996 by Oliver Goss. Well, here are some important notes concerning this release of CpuControl: 1. This version has some bugs removed and should be more compatible with accelerator boards from different manufacturers. However, due to my general lack of time not much has changed compared to the last release (sorry). 2. I included a patched version of CpuControl named 'CpuControl_NOREVERSE' in this archive which has the MEMF_REVERSE flag disabled (when allocating memory for the FASTROM and KICK options), to overcome certain problems for those of you who have one continuous block of memory consisting of 32 Bit memory (lower part) and 16 Bit memory (upper part). In such a case CpuControl would locate the ROM image in 16 Bit memory, resulting in a somewhat poorer performance. However, the use of this patched version can cause increased memory fragmentation. 3. The email address has changed in case you want to contact me. Coming up a general remark concerning the future development of CpuControl: It is not very likely that I will spend any more time in programming Amiga software. The reason for this is that I don't see a future for the Amiga, or in other words, in my opinion the Amiga is almost DEAD. I am very sorry about this, because I really like my Amiga, but there hasn't been any real innovation after the AA chipset was introduced. If you compare price and performance of up-to-date PCs to the Amiga you have to admit that the Amiga with its antiquated technology cannot compete any longer. Many people talk about PowerPC Amigas and a revival of the Amiga, but I haven't yet seen anything of it. Viscorp makes a lot of promises, but I don't believe that they will manage to produce a really innovative Amiga at a reasonable price that is able to keep up with the PC crap. (However, the above lines do not imply that I trash my Amiga at once in order to buy a PC or any other computer. I want to wait some more time to see what happens [maybe there's a miracle ?]). That's all I want to say about this topic for the moment. Please note that the opinion expressed above is my very own; I am aware that it may be contrary to the opinion of other Amiga users. Nevertheless, you can still contact me for bug reports etc. Last but not least I want to say 'Thanx' to all of you who sent me emails or postcards !!!! May the force always be with you ;) .
