 1> WHAT IS TALK TIME?

Talk Time is a small program that speaks the time to you whenever
it is executed. It use standard IFF sound samples and so it is
possible to replace Talk-Time's voice with your own, your girlfriend's
or even the Prime Minister's (providing you can get him to do some
    samples).
It is the speaking clock for your Amiga!

 2> USAGE AND REQUIREMENTs.

       USAGE.

Just type TALK-TIME into any CLI or double click on it's icon in
    Workbench.

       Parameters.`?' or `FD'

Type `TALK-TIME ?' into any CLI for on-line help and click the left
mousebutton to move on through the text.
Talk-Time was tayloired to run on a Hard Drive or from RAM if you
want to use it from a floppy disk either put the sound samples in RAM:
    or type `FD' after TALK-TIME. i.e. `TALK-TIME FD'

Talk-Time is WB friendly so it doesn`t crash if run from WB,
however as it stands at the moment I can`t suss outhow to pass
Talk-Time any parameters (such as ? or FD) when launched from WB.
Scripts and the Default Tool line in the icon don`t seem to work
(although they should). So as it stands at the moment if Talk-Time
needs any parameters passed to it then it is CLI only. Hey, feel free
to experiment maybe you can get it to work as it is supposed to. If
you succeed then PLEASE let me know what I`m doing wrong. The only
thing this is gonna muck up is launching Talk-Time from WB and wanting
the ? options or if you have the sound samples on floppy and need to
use FD parameter. Sorry I tried. I`m hoping most of you have Hard
    Drives anyway.

You will need to set up an ASSIGN of `TALK-TIME:' pointing to
wherever you keep the sound samples that Talk-Time uses. For example
if I kept the sound samples in a drawer called `CLOCK-SNDS' and kept
that within my `S' drawer on my Hard Drive then I would need to set up
    an assign of:-
                      `ASSIGN TALK-TIME: HD0:S/CLOCK-SNDS/'
It would be very wise to include this assign in your `User-Startup'
file then you needed type in evey time you want to set up Talk-Time.
Everybody should know how to do an Assign by now and if not then
find out, look it up or ask around!

       REQUIREMENTS.

       Sound Samples.

You need sound samples for Talk-Time to use. They should be
standard 8bit IFF sound samples (I`ve never tried with 16bit samples
they may work) and they should consist of the following :-
                              1.SND (saying `one')
                              2.SND (guess)
                              3.SND
                              4.SND
                         and so on down to
                             20.SND
                         then you`ll need
                             30.SND
                             40.SND
                             50.SND
                             AM.SND (saying `AM')
                             PM.SND (saying `PM')
                              0.SND (saying `O CLOCK')
                              O.SND (saying `O')
also an optional The-Time-Is.SND (saying `The Time Is')

`The-Time-Is.SND' sample is optional and will only be loaded if
it`s present. It is an announcement and can be what ever you like.

       Any Amiga!

No, seriously Talk-Time should work off any Amiga. That should
cheer up all you A500 owners. It has only been tested on an Amiga CD32
with SX1 unit but there is no reason why it shouldn`t work off any
Amiga. Hey, if I'm wrong let me know and I`ll see if I can fix it and
    send you another version.

3> WHY DID I WRITE IT?

I have a friend who is always trying to get me to switch to a PC
(don`t do it things only get worse!). He has a very good PC, very
fast, 16MB RAM, 1GIG Hard Drive, the works. It crashed four times in
the space of 3 hours. None of the icons presented when it loaded
Windows95 up could be clicked on directly as paths or setups wern`t
correct, or you had to go back to DOS, he couldn`t load in a
background picture for the Windows that opened up and yet dispite all
this he still tryed to convince me that PC`s were better.
For petes sake they cost more than twice the average Amiga set up!
One of his lines was `You`ll never get this on any Amiga!' as he
showed me a speaking clock program with his girlfriend`s voice.
Unimpressed I came back and programed the same bloody thing on the
Amiga in 24 hours and it`s a fraction of the size his was! So now you
can all have a speaking clock on your Amiga without all the
disadvantages of having a PC. Have fun!

 4> REGISTERING,TROUBLESHOOTING,BUGS,ETC.

Well, Talk-Time is Gift-Ware. I keep all ownership rights and the
copyright but you all have permision to copy and distribute it freely
providing you don`t take the credit for Talk-Time, you always inlcude
this DOC file and the sound samples and you don`t make profit from it!
Bung it on the InterNet, stick it in PD Librarys, give it to your
friends just make sure it is all complete with this DOC file and sound
samples and that you`re not making a huge profit out of it.

       Now comes the pleading.
The sound samples given out with this arn`t really that good and
this is because I need a new sampler. Soooooo anyone who wants to send
me money for my efforts and generosity PLEASE, PLEASE do so. I`ll get
a new sampler then more RAM: (I`ve only 2MEG) and generally upgrade my
    system.

Tell you what, if that isn`t incentive enough (who am I kidding?)
anyone who sends me money and their name and address I`ll send
Talk-Time-V2 to. When of course I`ve programed it. I`ve already
    started through.
Talk-Time-V2 will hopefully have a small window bar display which
when clicked on speaks the time to you, also settings for 24hr or 12hr
modes an alarm with custom sound sample, beep or Talk-Time mode,
hotkey support if I can suss it out I`ll also be build in.

I don`t think there are any bugs with Talk-Time but if you find any
PLEASE let me know. It is my first ever program so anything is
    possible I guess.

       Right now the address.........

                                    SK9 3HB

If you are one of the generous few sending me money then please
only send me stuff I can cash in at the bank without being charged for
it. i.e. Postal Orders, Cheques, I think Sterling is alright, but no
forgien currencies please (unless it`s a heck of a lot, of course).
Suggested amount 1,000,000 pounds or anything you feel like really.

Cheers, thats all folks, have fun!
