STAR WARS SHUTTLE ******************** Lightwave 3-D Model I have re-configured the shuttle in Modeler to now have foldable wings as in the movie. This is a simple procedure when you load the three objects into Lightwave. 1. Go to the Layout screen. The three objects, (ShuttleBody, ShuttleLeftWing & ShuttleRightWing will be visible. 2. Move each wing toward the correct position on the outer part of the body. The wing shape will fit perfectly over the ShuttleBody pylon. If you have trouble positioning the wing, move the camera or the view in closer - that will make it easier. 3. Once both wings are correctly placed, re-select each wing and make the ShuttleBody its parent. This is an important step, and if not done correctly, you will be flying without wings ! 4. Move the ShuttleBody to confirm the wings are attached. 5. To move the wings in your animation, select a start and end point from which you want the wings to move within. Select a wing as an Object. Select Rotate. De-select (H)eading and (P)itch. Only (B)ank should be depressed. Either use your mouse (right button) or select numeric input and enter the amount of bank you would like. I have found that entering numeric data is more precise, as you can get perfect movement of both wings. Do the same for the other wing and repeat the procedure for your ending frames. Maximum data is 0 to -150.00 for the Right Wing and 0 to 150.00 for the Left Wing. Much more than that and the wing will strike the vertical fin. I have also found that the TipMap (3-D/Images/Space) makes a great realistic map for the vertical fin. I have played around with the cylindrical and spherical map procedures entering different data values for the map, and I have gotten some real wild results ! Better and faster than bump mapping, etc. Have fun ! Jim Capillo
