I have this disk (not a complex object) with 5 different states, long story short, in the different states, some of the points have rotated. Now, if I load the object in the detail or stage editors, it shows up, but I *think* lacks all specularity. I at first thought it didn't render at all, but it's black and like 95% transparent against a black background (only the specularly highlighted parts appear), so I changed the background to white and whoosh, thar' she blows, cept without the blue specular highlights. Now, all I have to do to correct the prob is go into the object attributes (F7) and hit enter, everything is already set correctly...and hey now!, it works...I've never run into this before and might try reinstalling Imagine I guess supposing I can find the CD...unless somebody here has an answer? =) a little more info- there are five total states, if I go into one (F7, enter, renders fine as many times as I like) then go into another and back, the first one needs to have the same trick done to it again...I get nothing if I try to render the "project" in the staging editor =( --------------------------------- Date: Fri, 9 Jan 1998 20:31:10 EST From: PowerRoy I had a real similar problem back in November. Imagine has a small problem when working with States and Object Properties. Following is an excerpt from my original post concering what you're encountering, and my solution to the problem. ----------begin excerpt----------- ... just what 'Object Properties' really does do. This is what I found out... Indeed it is _supposed_ to remember all the basic attributes of an object. In fact it DOES remember them ... but something is fouled up, because while it remembers the values that you enter into the requestor, it 'forgets' to actually re-apply many of them to the object when you render. Again, if you check the info in the requestor by switching between various states that have been set-up, it appears that all the attributes have been saved and recalled correctly (except specular overdrive). But actually rendering an object reveals that many of the object's attributes have not been re-applied correctly. Specifically, the attributes which are NOT re-applied correctly are; Base Color, Specular Color, Hardness, Reflectivity, and Filter Color. And the attributes that ARE re-applied correctly are; Roughness, Brightness, Fog, and Light settings. If I understand correctly, this problem has only manifested itself since the introduction of 'Specular Overdrive', and so only occurs in IFW 1.3.4 ... I also think this will be fixed in the next CUP. ... (And again, I'll say that my work-around has been to use the ABAttrib Texture to set all the basic object attributes, don't check the 'Object Properties' box when working with states, and just use the 'Textures / Brushes' option instead. While the ABAttrib texture doesn't offer Specular Overdrive, or as many options for Fog Objects, it works great for things like Base Color, Specular, Hardness, Reflectivity, and Filter values). --------------end excerpt-------------- Hope this helps ya out (get the AB textures, and the AA textures, too, while you're at it).
