I have provided here a Windows icon for DOOM and will now explain how run it successfully from Windows. Using a commonly available utility--WINDOS.EXE-- available on most BBSs as WINDOS.ZIP, one can simply install DOOM through the Program Manager with the command line "WINDOS.EXE DOOM.EXE". Then WINDOS will exit Windows, run DOOM, and return to Windows when done with DOOM. I have over 600K conventional memory free within Windows, so I am not sure how this would work with a lot less. I also don't particularly care for DOOM creating its own root directory-- \DOOMDATA--and so I have created a batch file to manipulate the .CFG file and get rid of that directory as soon as the game finishes running.
