Xpander and Matrix-12 Profiles These two Profiles (XPANDER.XOR and MATRIX12.XOR) are very simple Profiles that will allow you to use XOR as a librarian for your mega-synth. They do NOT provide any patch editing features, but they DO allow you to toss out your data cassettes and lists of sounds. (I've waited four years for this!) No offense to Bob Melvin (the creator of XOR), but it always seemed to me that programming an Xpander from a computer would be sort of like putting training wheels on a Harley, or painting a moustache on the Mona Lisa. The individual sections of the single and multi patches have been defined, however, so you can use XOR's Transplant functions to copy certain parts of a patch from one place to another. One important thing to be aware of: Because of limitations (believe it or not) in the Xpander's sysex implementation, it is very hard to get and/or send the current single or multi patch in either of these instruments. For this reason, these Profiles use patch 99 as a temporary storage location when getting or sending a patch. In case it's not clear, this means that **** THE SINGLE OR MULTI PATCH IN LOCATION 99 WILL BE LOST **** **** EACH TIME YOU GET OR SEND A PATCH! **** As long as you get an entire bank of patches before you do any individual patch functions, everything will be OK. The following switches on the synth's MIDI ENABLE page must also be set properly for things to work right: SYSTEMX on (of course), PATCH on, and ECHO off (if you're using MIDI Merging in XOR). As of this writing, the Matrix-12 Profile has not been tested, other than in areas in which it is compatible with the Xpander. (I don't have one.) Partial credit for these Profiles must surely be extended to both Tom Skrobola and Glenn Workman, who re-created the entire Matrix-12 sysex documentation by trial and error after Oberheim misplaced their only copy.
