BATMAN Ocean Software 1986 CONTROLS : Keyboard, Kempston, Cursor --------------------------------------------------------------------- AIM : Returning to the Batcaves after a hard day's crime-fighting, Batman finds that Robin has been kidnapped by his foes - the Joker and the Riddler. Worse is to come; the Batmobile has been dismantled to prevent any chance of Batman being able to follow the kidnappers. Batman must find the parts of the Batmobile to have any hope of rescuing Robin! GAMEPLAY : In addition to finding the Batmobile bits, Batman must also find his equipment - the Batboots, Batbelt, Bat-Thruster and Batbag. Until he has found these three items, he will be unable to track down the Batmobile. Once the seven parts of the Batmobile are located, Batman will then have to go to the launch pad whereupon he can fire up the engines and set off to rescue Robin. EQUIPMENT : Batman must first find these four items. They are indicated in the bottom right of the screen and will automatically be highlighted when collected: 1. BATBOOTS - allow Batman to jump. 2. BATBELT - a low-gravity device which halves the speed of descent. 3. BAT-THRUSTER - lets Batman have horizontal control when falling but has no effect on the speed of his descent. 4. BATBAG - enables Batman to pick up, carry and drop items. However, they cannot be moved from the location they start in. EXTRA POWERS : Batman is able to collect temporary extra powers which will aid (or in one case, hinder) him in his mission: 1. EXTRA LIFE 2. ENERGY - Increases movement speed 3. SHIELDS - Invulnerability 4. JUMP - Double-height jumping 5. NEUTRALISER - Cancels all extra powers. Avoid! BAT-SIGNALS : Or red herrings, as they are otherwise known. Touch one of these fish-like objects and it will vanish, storing the state of play. This allows you to restart the game at that point should you lose all your lives. COMMENTS : "A neatly finished game which does Batman proud". RATING : 92% (CRASH #28, May 1986) NOW : Still quite a nice game. I think it was converted to the Atari ST at one time (although I may be wrong), so it has possibly already made a 16-bit appearance. --------------------------------------------------------------------- KEYS : Left - O } Right - P } Joystick controls Up - Q } Down - A } Jump - Bottom row, SPACE - Joystick fire Pause - 1
