ReadCIS 1.7.0 and ThreeCIS 5.5.0 SUPPORT Questions should be posted on CompuServe's PALMTOP forum section 20, or sent to Dennis Lefebvre via CompuServe Mail at 102404,3623. DESCRIPTION ReadCIS is an "offline reader" to automate CompuServe access from the Psion Series 3a pocket computer. ThreeCIS is the script that performs the online work. ReadCIS is not an interactive browser like CompuServe's Information Manager. An offline reader requires the user to decide everything that is to be accomplished before each online session, configure the program to do it, and let the program run without further intervention. It is similar to WinCIM's "Send/Receive All Mail" command, but it is not limited to Mail. Just press a few keys and ReadCIS will automatically logon to CompuServe, collect waiting Mail, send outgoing Mail, retrieve news articles, weather reports, stock quotations, download forum messages, send pending replies and disconnect. All without any user intervention whatsoever. Obviously, to configure ReadCIS to perform these tasks you must know what can be done, and the best way to learn is to spend some time exploring CompuServe interactively from your PC. ReadCIS uses CompuServe's ASCII interface, it cannot access HMI-only services. ReadCIS also requires that your CompuServe mailbox be located on the original Mail system. If your mailbox has been moved to the new NISA Mail system, you must use the online command GO OLDMAIL to move your mailbox back to the original system. It is best to do this with an HMI protocol program such as CIM, because any pending messages will be destoyed. The trial version of ReadCIS has two important limitations. First, you can only send one Mail message per online session. ReadCIS will let you create more than one message, but you will be unable to connect to CompuServe with more than one item in the Out Basket. The registered version will allow you to send up to 16 messages per session. Second, you can use only one forum; the registered version supports five forums. Also, bear in mind that CompuServe is an evolving system, and some features may not work at the time you try the program due to online changes - stop by CIS:PALMTOP library 18 to obtain the latest version. The ReadCIS documentation is part of the program itself. Start ReadCIS, and press to read it. It's organized as a Psion Data file that can also be printed, or viewed on your PC if you have PsiWIN. ReadCIS is complex, there is no escaping reading the instructions. At an absolute minimum read topics: 2.0, 4.1.1, 4.2.1, 5.0, 6.0, 6.1.1, 7.0, and 7.3.5 to understand the fundamental principals of operation.
