Virtual Super WildCard DOS Beta build 1. New in this release: - 320x240 resolution for VESA-Compliant video cards - Fixed some more timming problems - Added Battery Backup Load/Save - Vince code added. Basic stuff to get you started: You will need: - A speedy PC. Even if this version has some assembly video optiizations written by Vince, and also works faster than previous, you will need a fast machine to fully enjoy VSWC. Vince is optimizing the most cumbersome parts of the program right now, so hopefully this will only get better. :) - DOS4GW.exe : This is the required DOS runtime application. I dont have an URL to Rational Systems Inc., but i must suppose you can get it from their site. It also comes with many DOS games out there, like Duke Nukem 3D, Doom, Doom II,etc. - A SVGA card & monitor supporting mode 0x13 (320x200 x 256 colors) A VESA-Compliant card is recommended for full video emulation. - 8Mb of Ram. (I couldnt test this, but it should work. Contact me otherwise). - SNES cart images. I dont know where to get them, and how to make them. So dont ask. How to run it: VSWC doesnt have any commandline parameters. Theres no interface yet, however, we will start working on one soon. As soon as VSWC starts, it will look for a file named 'cart.swc', in case it doesnt find it, it will ask you the filename to open. Key Mapping: ESC = Exit Emulation Arrow keys = Directionals Space Bar = Select Return = Start A = A B = B X = X Y = Y L = Top Left R = Top Right F1 = Load Battery Backup SRAM F2 = Save Battery Backup SRAM F3 = Decrease Framerate (Faster, but choppier animation) F4 = Increase Framerate (Slower, but smoother animation) D = Jump into the debugger (Just dont use it if you dont know what it is) Things to expect: - The program will attempt to switch to 320x240 as the default mode. If your card isnt VESA compliant, then it will switch to 320x200 and cut off some vertical lines. A workaround to this is to get UNIVBE, a VESA emulator for those cards wich arent VESA compliant. - Modes 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and a preliminary Mode 7 support work in this version. Horizontal scrolling is blocky (tile-based), while vertical scrolling is smooth (pixel-based). Pixel-based horizontal scrolling should be added soon. Mode 3 dont have horizontal or vertical tile flipping and scrolling is sometimes wrong. Mode 7 dont have scrolling nor any special f/x yet. Last notes: I guess the program is already in a pretty 'decent' state, so we start with the Beta series. Vince Vu has just joined the team and im eventually thinking on having him fully in charge of the DOS version. We'll see. So wait out there for the next release. This PC version could have never seen the light of the day without the invaluable help of _4999_ and EFX. Thanks to The_Brain who has been really helpful with his suggestions.
