Starforce emulation driver, copyright Dave Spicer 1995. ------------------------------------------------------- Requirements: Sparcade version 1.95b. At least 229,376 bytes of free memory reported when running Sparcade (this equates to around 530K of free conventional memory before running). 486DX40 with Vesa Local Bus or PCI. A 486-33 may be sufficient if it has a sufficiently fast video card. Slower systems are unlikely to work at all! Sound Blaster mixing and joystick support may seriously affect performance on some machines. If you experience problems, try disabling the joystick, lowering the Sound Blaster mixing rate or turning off the 'enhance' setting in the blaster.cfg file. Installation: Copy the files STARFORC.DRV and STARFORC.RAT into your Sparcade directory. Create a directory called STARFORC and copy your original ROMs into it. Unzipping this package with the -d option (i.e. UNZIP -d STARFORC) whilst in your Sparcade directory will automatically create the STARFORC directory. ROM filenames (following the usual . convention): starforc.1 starforc.2 starforc.3 starforc.4 starforc.5 starforc.6 starforc.7 starforc.8 starforc.9 starforc.10 starforc.11 starforc.12 starforc.13 starforc.14 starforc.15 starforc.16 starforc.17 starforc.18 Notes: From a technical standpoint, this driver is one of my favourites. Starforce's display consists of 4 overlayed screens with sprites moving between the top 2 layers. As you can probably imagine, implementing this on the PC at a reasonable speed proved quite a challenge! Center the display using the F1/F2 keys. These settings are not remembered between sessions at present. Some monitors may go into power saving mode when the screen is centered(!) Please don't email me asking for joystick and sound options to be configurable on a per-game basic just to support Starforce. These sorts of options will only appear in the forthcoming 32-bit version of Sparcade. Also, don't mail me with queries/whinges about the conventional memory requirements. If you don't like it, wait for 32-bit Sparcade!
