,--. +---------+ PAC-TAPE \ : | o ___ o | -------- / : | /. .\ | v1.0 `--' +-+-----+-+ FIRST-TIME USERS: Please read "pactape.txt"! ----------- What's New? ----------- Files created with version 0.8 or earlier must be renamed! Example: PACMAN.L01 => PACMAN.T01 PACMAN.010 => PACMAN.E01 *** v1.0 *** Smarter learning algorithm at last! No more completely random wandering. DIP switch requirements reduced to difficulty setting only. Number of lives and bonus score no longer matter ... although you may want to set them as high as possible before playing someone else's tapes back! Bug fix: tapes weren't storing the final motion to win a level. Bug fix: exploration table wasn't correctly storing the last path when the user disengaged learn mode. *** v0.9 *** Dip Switch settings are now enforced. Settings are stored with each file generated by Pac-Tape. If a file is attempted to be used with different Dip Switch settings active, Pac-Tape will now prompt to override the settings or cancel. Winning paths are now remembered. They are stored in a separate file, and may be played back with the 'B' key. The learning engine ('L' key) only writes to this file, it never reads from it; it continues looking for *better* winning paths: that's the whole point! New file names for files generated by Pac-Tape: game.Tnn - Tapes game.Enn - Learning exploration table game.Bnn - Best winning path table Old files are supported, but must be renamed to match the convention above. Two patches submitted to the M.A.M.E. team for inclusion with v0.29 are supplied with Pac-Tape: 1) Pac-Man sprite fix. See src/vidhrdw/pengo.c for details. 2) Keyboard LEDs are wired to the Player 1 & 2 Start buttons (they flashed on the original cabinet). This patch also requires patching Allegro 2.2. ================================================== Pac-Tape is Copyright (C) 1997 by Sean Gugler.
