This file describes how to get CINEMU up and running. For a full description of the CINEMU "*.INI" file format see: CINEMU.DOC I'll start by answering the most frequently asked questions: - There is currently no sound support. - There is currently no overlay support, though color *is* supported. - There is currently no joystick support. - There *is* mouse support for the appropriate games. - There are no graphic modes supported other that the default 640x350. - Star Hawk does not, and cannot support a mouse. As time goes by and I continue to tinker with the emulator, these things will show up... -------------------------------------------------------------------- Setting up CINEMU Unzip the file CINEMU.ZIP into it's own directory using: PKUNZIP -d CINEMU or if you're using WinZip, be sure to specify "Use directory names". This will create an empty directory "ROMS\" under your current directory, this is where you should place your game ROMs. For legal reason the game ROMs are not included with this emulator, you'll have to find them elsewhere. Assuming you've unzipped the file CINE11.ZIP to a directory on the C: drive called "C:\CINEMU", and you've copied your game ROMs to the subdirectory "C:\CINEMU\ROMS", the output of a "DIR /S" command should look similar to this: Directory of C:\CINEMU . 08-08-97 10:54p .. 08-08-97 10:54p ROMS 08-12-97 5:28a CINEMU DOC 17,611 08-12-97 5:12a CINEMU EXE 35,344 08-11-97 8:34a SCANCODE EXE 38,178 08-07-97 3:55a README TXT 4,638 08-12-97 5:31a REVISION TXT 902 08-06-97 11:44p ARMOR INI 2,186 08-09-97 12:33p ARMOR2 INI 2,698 08-09-97 12:35p BARRIER INI 2,556 08-11-97 10:33p BOXNBUGS INI 2,735 08-09-97 12:43p DEMON INI 2,338 08-09-97 2:26p DEMON2 INI 2,999 08-09-97 2:38p RIPOFF INI 2,079 08-09-97 2:27p RIPOFF2 INI 2,582 08-09-97 2:31p SOLAR INI 2,383 08-09-97 2:32p SPACEWAR INI 3,503 08-09-97 2:38p SPEEDFRK INI 1,854 08-09-97 2:40p STARCAS INI 1,992 08-09-97 2:40p STARHAWK INI 2,633 08-09-97 12:29p SUNDANCE INI 3,841 08-09-97 3:35a TAILGUNR INI 2,753 08-09-97 2:53p WARRIOR INI 2,570 08-09-97 5:40a WOTW INI 1,606 08-09-97 2:54p 22 file(s) 139,981 bytes Directory of C:\CINEMU\ROMS . 08-12-97 5:28a .. 08-12-97 5:28a ARMOR T7 4,096 08-13-92 3:43p ARMOR P7 4,096 08-13-92 3:43p ARMOR U7 4,096 08-13-92 3:43p ARMOR R7 4,096 08-13-92 3:43p BARRIER P7 2,048 12-20-96 2:52p BARRIER R7 2,048 12-20-96 2:52p BARRIER T7 2,048 12-20-96 2:52p BARRIER U7 2,048 12-20-96 2:52p BOXNBUGS U1A 4,096 04-26-93 7:45p BOXNBUGS U1B 4,096 04-26-93 7:45p BOXNBUGS U2A 4,096 04-26-93 7:45p BOXNBUGS U2B 4,096 04-26-93 7:45p BOXNBUGS U3A 4,096 04-26-93 7:45p BOXNBUGS U3B 4,096 04-26-93 7:45p BOXNBUGS U4A 4,096 04-26-93 7:45p BOXNBUGS U4B 4,096 04-26-93 7:45p DEMON P7 4,096 12-20-96 2:52p DEMON R7 4,096 12-20-96 2:52p DEMON T7 4,096 12-20-96 2:52p DEMON U7 4,096 12-20-96 2:52p RIPOFF P7 2,048 08-13-92 12:40p RIPOFF R7 2,048 08-13-92 12:40p RIPOFF T7 2,048 08-13-92 12:40p RIPOFF U7 2,048 08-13-92 12:40p SOLAR P7 4,096 08-13-92 12:41p SOLAR R7 4,096 08-13-92 12:41p SOLAR T7 4,096 08-13-92 12:41p SOLAR U7 4,096 08-13-92 12:41p SPACEWAR R7 2,048 08-13-92 3:44p SPACEWAR U7 2,048 08-13-92 3:44p SPEEDFRK U7 2,048 04-13-97 11:01a SPEEDFRK R7 2,048 04-13-97 11:01a SPEEDFRK T7 2,048 04-13-97 11:01a SPEEDFRK P7 2,048 04-13-97 11:01a STARCAS P7 2,048 08-13-92 12:41p STARCAS R7 2,048 08-13-92 12:41p STARCAS T7 2,048 08-13-92 12:41p STARCAS U7 2,048 08-13-92 12:41p STARHAWK U7 2,048 01-18-93 9:14p STARHAWK R7 2,048 01-18-93 9:14p SUNDANCE U7 2,048 02-16-97 10:42p SUNDANCE T7 2,048 02-16-97 10:43p SUNDANCE R7 2,048 02-16-97 10:44p SUNDANCE P7 2,048 02-16-97 10:46p TAILGUNR R7 2,048 04-27-93 3:02p TAILGUNR P7 2,048 04-27-93 3:01p TAILGUNR U7 2,048 04-27-93 3:02p TAILGUNR T7 2,048 04-27-93 3:02p WARRIOR R7 2,048 04-04-97 10:12p WARRIOR P7 2,048 04-04-97 10:13p WARRIOR U7 2,048 04-04-97 10:14p WARRIOR T7 2,048 04-04-97 10:15p WOTW U7 4,096 10-18-96 10:34p WOTW T7 4,096 10-18-96 10:36p WOTW R7 4,096 10-18-96 10:37p WOTW P7 4,096 10-18-96 10:39p 56 file(s) 163,840 bytes You're now ready to run the emulator. To run the emulator type one of the following: CINEMU ARMOR to play Armor Attack (Single Player) CINEMU ARMOR2 to play Armor Attack (Dual Players) CINEMU BARRIER to play Barrier CINEMU BOXNBUGS to play Boxing Bugs CINEMU DEMON to play Demon (Single Player) CINEMU DEMON2 to play Demon (Dual Players) CINEMU RIPOFF to play Rip Off (Single Player) CINEMU RIPOFF2 to play Rip Off (Dual Players) CINEMU SOLAR to play Solar Quest CINEMU SPACEWAR to play Space War CINEMU SPEEDFRK to play Speed Freak CINEMU STARCAS to play Star Castle CINEMU STARHAWK to play Star Hawk CINEMU SUNDANCE to play Sundance CINEMU TAILGUNR to play Tailgunner CINEMU WARRIOR to play Warrior (well not really...) CINEMU WOTW to play War of the Worlds Each game will display it's Keyboard mapping before starting the emulator. -------------------------------------------------------------------- I'd like to thank the following people for their help and suggestions: Jeff Coleburn -- for his excellent CINEMU Hacking page: http://www.netaxs.com/~vsp/cinema/cinema1.html I basically stole all the .INI files from his page and used many of them as a start to my current batch of .INI files. So if any of you helped with these files, thanks! If you have questions on CINEMU, be sure to check out his page! Joe L. Ng -- for his testing of the current version. He's the sole reason CINEMU still supports JoyKey and JoyEmu! He also helped with the timings on a 486-50mhz CPU since I don't own one. He's found that some games will not run at full speed on this setup. (Sorry Joe!) I now officially claim the need for a 486-66mhz or above to run all the games at full speed, since I do have access to one of these. Bill Bradley -- for his deciphering of Demon. Having no schematic for Demon, he saved me the trouble of hacking it myself! He (along with Jeff) did a great job of decoding Speed Freak, setting up the keyboard in a decent attempt at simulating a steering wheel. They made the game playable before the inclusion of a mouse. Michael Defrank, and Valerio Verrando -- who both sent me Star Hawk .INI files. This is another control panel without a schematic, so thanks guys for the information! CYBERYOGI Christian Oliver (=CO=) Windler -- who actually mapped the second player control panel to Sundance without a schematic, what a pain! I'm sure =CO= will make his way into heaven by hacking the security system at the pearly gate. (Or by simply explaining to St. Peter the philosophy behind LOGOLOGIE until Peter says "Fine! Whatever! Pass! Next please!!" ;^) He's also the reason the number of allowable inputs have been raised to 64. Cameron Mac Millan -- who has created a batch of files design to more easily support JoyEmu. His .INI files can be found on his excellent Emulation Page at: http://www.inderby.co.uk/~freeplay And last but far from least, Bill Paul -- who's work on the Cinematronics Home Page has made for a *very* nice platform for placing all my Techno-nerd / Emulator stuff. If you've downloaded this emulator from a different site, be sure to go back and check out Bill's hompage (the home of this emulator) at: http://www.concentric.net/~Zonn And all the people I've missed... Thanks all! -Zonn
