~EMU README FILE FOR 2.3 (071297)

This is essentially a maintenance release from EMU 2.2. It is intended only
to fix a few problems, streamline operation, and add a few features.

I don't need to know about problems that I already know about, so any email
sent to me about something that's covered in the release notes will be
ignored. ;-) Check the list carefully! Email all other problems/bugs to
neil@synthcom.com.

Do not ask about ROM images! All requests for ROM images will be ignored!

System requirements
===================
   * 486/33 Or better CPU with PCI or VLB based video card. 386 And lower
     CPUs are NOT SUPPORTED. Tempest and Missile Command may be sluggish on
     this machine
   * Sound Blaster 16 (or compatible) optional
   * Windows 95 or NT is *NOT* supported by EMU! If it works, great! If not,
     I'm sorry.

What's New in Emu 2.3
=====================
   * Added Wingman Warrior support alongside the mouse. If you have the
     Logitech driver loaded, it will work automatically.
   * Added a ROM librarian. The ROMs that you normally use with EMU will be
     sucked up (AND DELETED) into a file called LIBRARY.ROM. This negates
     the need to store each emulated game in a subdirectory. A publicly
     available librarian in source form is forthcoming.
   * Graphics are now brighter than in prior releases
   * Battlezone correctly clips lines
   * Fixed colors in Tempest
   * Fixed random resizing of flipper dudes in tempest
   * Fixed all colors in all games, and included intensities on color games
   * Increased sampling rate of Pokey and SBDRV engines to 44.1KHz. Use the
     -lowsamp option to put it back to the bad sounding 22050Hz setting.
   * Added orientation command to Tempest (press 'h' during game). It allows
     for the game to be played in the vertical orientation of the arcade
   * Window configuration screen somewhat fixed. At least you can see what
     you're doing.

Known Bugs and Incomplete Implementations
=========================================
   * Partial flicker present. Sacrificed a bit of flicker for performance.
     Next major EMU revision will alleviate this entirely.
   * Playing Space Invaders after each AVG game won't show up
   * Asteroids and Lunar Lander do not have sound support.
   * Space Invaders and Space Invaders II do not have sound support.
   * Asteroids Deluxe and Battle Zone have partial sound support.
   * Joystick support is not present.
   * Space Invaders is playable, however the score doesn't count and the
     fleet stops firing at you after a while.
   * Space Invaders Part II has this known bug: when you clear the fleet
     of aliens, there is no predicting what EMU will do next.
   * Space Invaders Part II is fairly broken, and marginally playable. The
     same holds true for Space Invaders as well.
   * High score is saved only in Asteroids and Asteroids Deluxe.
   * Red Baron is unplayable, due to lack of joystick support.
   * No way to insert coins into Battlezone (leave it in free play mode)
   * No way to adjust volume, bass, treble, etc... with sound
   * Some of the dip switches don't do anything. I need to debug this.

Have fun with EMU 2.3! Mail feedback to the emu list or to neil@synthcom.com,
and do NOT mention bugs already present in this list! Thank you!
