Mac 0.18b Win32 port Win32 port by Weston Pawlowski vMac webpage: http://leb.net/vmac vMac Application Site: http://leb.net/~suwalski Questions, suggestions, and bug reports for the Win32 port: WDP22@Juno.com vMac is protected by Copyright 1997 Philip Cummins and it may also be protected by copyrights by other port authors. vMac is a MacPlus emulator, which means it runs programs for a MacPlus on your computer! This is a very early release (0.18), so there are a some problems, but it can still run some Mac programs. This is the Win32 port, you can get ports for other operating systems form the vMac website. *New since 0.18a* -Fixed system resource bug that causes ALL Mac apps to eventually crash -Can have 4 disks, that you can insert into either of the 2 emulated drives -New Icon *New since 0.18* -Runs faster! (Due to the faster screen and some other changes I made) -Faster screen! (no longer draws Mac screen one pixel at a time) -Can write to disks! -Better mouse tracking and clicking (not perfect yet) -Pull down menu where you can insert disks, interrupt, reset, or exit -This file available in Plain Text (TXT) and Word 6 (DOC) vMac will take a minute or two to boot, sometimes it may look like its not doing anything, but give it a few minutes. To set vMac options, edit the file vMac.cfg (it will be automatically be generated when vMac is run for the first time). vMac is freeware, so please redistribute it! You may bundle it in on CD-ROM, DVD, or any other media. You may distribute it as long as you do NOT modify any of the included files. And if you distribute it along with other other files, YOU are legally resonsible for those other files. If you bundle it, vMac may NOT be the only software, you MUST have other software with it. There are NO guarantees that this program will even work, it has been tested, but there are still NO guarantees (use at your own risk). *INCLUDED FILES* vMacW.exe - vMac program Splash.dat - Splash Screen ReadMe_W.txt - This file ReadMe_W.doc - This file in Word 6 format vMac_ROM.txt - Instructions for getting a ROM image *REQUIREMENTS* It should run on the below operating systems: -Windows 95 (works) -Windows NT (works under 4.0, untested under other versions) -Windows 3.1 or 3.11 with Win32s 1.15 or better (*untested*) You need a bootable HFV disk image in a file named disk1.dsk. It will run System 6.0.8, and probably some other versions. You can get disk images for free from the vMac application site. *Info: A HFV disk image is a disk image with out the first 84 bytes, a converter is available the the vMac website. You need a ROM image from a REAL MacPlus that YOU own in a file named vMac.ROM. Get the program named CopyROM from the vMac website, then read the file named vMac_ROM.txt for instructions. Once you get this ROM image, do NOT distribute it! Other System Requirements: -486 with FPU (Math-coprocessor) -640x480 SuperVGA 256 color -8MB RAM (May run with 4MB, but thats really NOT recommended) -Mouse Recommended: -Pentium 100 or better computer -800x600 SuperVGA Hi-color -16MB RAM *PROBLEMS & LIMITATIONS* -It has trouble clicking and double-clicking! I'm working on fixing this, but for now you have to hold down the mouse button a bit longer than normal. It is possible to double-click, but it may be easier to go to File - Open. Fast computers (Pentium 133 or better) might not have this problem. -The keyboard doesn't work properly There is only some keyboard support, the Shift, Control, Command, Option, and some other keys aren't supported yet. -It has trouble when 2MB or 4MB is set It seems to work fine when 1MB is set, but I've been getting reports that when 2MB or 4MB are set, vMac crashes or it freezes at Welcome to Macintosh. Other ports are having trouble with this too.
