Do not forget to check the author's Web site at:
              http://personal.riverusers.com/~thegrendel/

An updated hypertext copy of this file will be found there, as well as much
                        other interesting "stuff".

There are 2 excellent Scrabble(tm) FAQ's available for download from:
                                 rtfm.mit.edu.
            /pub/usenet/news.answers/games/scrabble-faq/general
            /pub/usenet/news.answers/games/scrabble-faq/supplement

These were created by Steven Alexander, who does a monthly update on them,
which he posts on about the 15th of each month on the rec.games.board and
rec.games.crossword newsgroups on the Usenet, and in hypertext format on his
home page, listed below.

The FAQ itself contains a plethora of information on the game, including
rules, word lists, history, and background. The FAQ supplement contains a
listing of all North American official Scrabble (tm) clubs and a run down of
upcoming tournaments. Understandably, this is a must for all serious
players!

Steven Alexander also has a WWW home page. Its address is:
           http://http.www.teleport.com/~stevena/scrabble/faq.html
The home page contains the hypertext versions of the FAQ described above.

The database of newspaper and magazine article "reprints" is a wonderful
resource. It may be linked to from his home page.

Steven Alexander is the chronicler, commentator, and information clearing
house of the Scrabble (tm) community. He is the modern day Procopius of the
word game world. All information and updates on Scrabble should be forwarded

There is a Scrabble(tm)-playing "robot" program that is sometimes available
via Telnet. ACBOT is an extremely strong opponent that will test the skills
of all but the top Scrabble players. For more info, e-mail James Cherry:
                                                         jac@doe.carleton.ca

                 -------------------------------------------

Playing Scrabble (tm) by modem makes it possible to "cheat" by using help
devices, such as the no longer manufactured Franklin OSPD (tm) or the WORDY
list generating utilities running on a second computer or in a separate
window under X11. The ethics of doing so are subject to further discussion.
Similar issues crop up in postal Scrabble (tm).

Lists of "legal" OSPD2 (tm) words (from 2 to 8 letters) are downloadable on
the Internet from the following ftp site: gatekeeper.dec.com

The path is: /pub/micro/msdos/misc/crossword-archive

The files are named:
words.2.Z words.3.Z words.4.Z words.5.Z words.6.Z words.7.Z words.8.Z

These files have been compressed. To convert them to ASCII, use the
UNCOMPRESS or GUNZIP utilities under the Unix (or Linux) operating system.

These files do *not* include many inflections of legal words.

The files were compiled by the Canadian student, J. Chew.

A Public Domain list of all the OSPD3 (tm) words, in listable and printable
format, is part of the WORDY game study system by the author. A similar list
is available from some of the Web sites listed above.

Scrabble and OSPD are trademarks of the Milton Bradley Co., Inc., a Hasbro,
Inc. subsidiary.

                        WORDY is not a trademark.
