               Learning To Play WiseGuy

Welcome to WiseGuy InterActive, the word association
game for kids from ages four to nine. With the use
of color graphics, animation and music, WiseGuy will
help your child become a skilled computer user as well
as learn the meanings of words by the association of
descriptive pictures which belong to the words.

(When reading this documentation you may "search" for a
particular word or subject by pressing the letter "S"
on your computer keyboard. You will be asked to type
in what you are searching for and push "Enter." You may
also print the information you are now reading by
pushing the letter P on you computer keyboard)

Move over Mom and Dad. There's going to be a WiseGuy
in the family. May as well get that additional PC
you've been thinking about. Junior has plans for the
one you have. He or she will spend hours on end using
the mouse to bring up colorful screens that play music
and animation to help him or her learn all those new
colorful and musical words.

Many of the selections (from the Alphabet Screen) use
multiple-choice questions in the learning process to
entertain the child while he or she learns. WiseGuy
makes a sour face when the kid picks the wrong answer,
and the bells and buzzers go off when the correct
answer is selected.

There is even a math section so the little guy can
learn basic arithmetic (Watch for WiseGuy InterActive
MathBox coming your way soon!) Bunches of puzzles
will keep the kid occupied for hours while it color-
fully and musically teaches dozens of those new words.

Junior can click on "Alphabet" to bring up a screen
with all the letters, then click on any letter to see a
word, or in many cases several words, which start with
the letter selected.

The little guy can click on "Animals" to see how to
spell the name of his or her favorite pets, or any of
the other colorful and educational screens that will
keep the little one(s) musically entertained for hours
and hours.

                   To Start Playing

From the Main Menu, (the menu you will be taken to when
you exit this screen) point with the mouse to the green
box that says, "Click Here To Play WiseGuy."

When the green box is selected the player will be taken
to the Choices Menu.

The Choices are Alphabet, Animals, People, Vegetables,
Colors and Other Things. Select one of the choices by
clicking once with the left mouse button on one of the
choices.

The player will be shown a screen with pictures of
Alphabet Letters, Animals, People, Colors, Vegetables
or Other Things. Some of the selections have multiple
word choices as the corresponding answers.

Each time the child picks the correct word that fits
the picture, the bells and buzzers go off and the game
will let him or her know they were right. If an
incorrect answer is selected the game will also notify
the child, and the girl or boy will be asked to try
again.

Some selections will provide the answer without the
player making a choice.

When the player wants to continue and no instructions
are given on the screen, it is only necessary to click
a mouse button or any of the keys on the computer
keyboard.

                    Self-Running Demo

To see a graphical illustration of how to play WiseGuy,
from the Main Menu select the "Learn To Play" box with
your mouse arrow and press your left mouse button.
Depending upon which Demo is selected the demonstration
will last one minute or four minutes, and the player
will only be able to watch. After the demo stops,
control of the game will then be returned to the
player.

If the player wants to quit while a demo is playing he
or she may do so by simultaneously holding down the
"Control" key and pressing the "Pause/Break" key.
Doing so will exit the game entirely and it will be
necessary to type "Wiseguy" or "Wisemenu" to get back
into the game at the main menu.

                         Hints

A child may also learn the Alphabet by pointing and
clicking on the corners of the large red letters that
appear on the Main Menu (available only with complete
version). Each selection brings up a screen with a
picture example and a corresponding word beginning with
the letter selected.

When clicking on letters from the Main Menu the
resulting picture and word remain on the screen until
the player presses a key or a mouse button, which takes
the player back to the Main Menu. Some of the letters
on the Main Menu will provide more than one picture
depending upon which section of the letter is selected.

                        Puzzles

Can be played from any of the screens which have a
"Puzzle" button on them. Simply click on the "Puzzle"
button. Written instructions will be shown about how
to put the puzzle together, then the screen will
scramble into various puzzle pieces. If you want to
quit the puzzle at any time just press your escape key
on your computer keyboard or your right mouse button.

Getting In And Out Of The Game

To exit WiseGuy click your mouse on the box that says,
"Quit." If the screen you are looking at does not have
a quit box, click on the "Back" box which will take you
to a screen which does have a "Quit" box.

When you would like to get back into the game again
just type Wiseguy at your C:\Wisedemo prompt
(C:\Wisedemo\wiseguy) and push your enter key. If you
would like to bypass the opening screens and go
directly to the Main Menu, just type wisemenu at your
C:\Wisedemo prompt (C:\Wisedemo\wisemenu) and push enter.

Stopping A Demo Or Series of Screen Plays

WiseGuy uses what are known as "Script Files" which
are, in many cases, linked together and play one after
the other. Should you start the four minute demo, for
example, and before the demo stops, you decide you want
to quit, you may do so by holding down the "Control"
key and pressing the "Pause/Break" key. This will stop
the series of files from playing and will take you out
of the WiseGuy program as soon as the current file
stops playing. To get back into the game just type
Wiseguy or Wisemenu at your C:\Wisedemo prompt.

                Additional Information

WiseGuy was developed with the use of "Computer Magic,"
a drawing and music program created by Jeff Napier and
Another Company. Many thanks and much appreciation is
expressed to the makers of "Computer Magic."

WiseGuy was developed to be used on any IBM compatible
personal computer which has a hard disk, color graphics
card and a mouse. If your computer does not have a
color graphics card or mouse, you can still play Wise
Guy in monochrome (one color) and you will have to use
your arrow and enter keys on your keyboard (with
monochrome graphics and sequence quality is greatly
reduced).

The WiseGuy complete version requires approximately ten
(10) megabytes of hard disk space for installation and
eight (8) megabytes to run after being installed.

                     Windows Users

This WiseGuy Demo may also be run from MicroSoft Windows.
To run from Windows select "File" from the Windows
Program Manager. Click on "New." Click "Okay" for
Program Item. For Description type in Wisedemo. For
Command Line type in C:\wisedemo\wiseguy.bat.

running WiseGuy from Windows. WiseGuy may run
slightly faster or slower when playing from Windows,
depending upon the exact configuration of your
computer's system.
